  1. oops... 2002 996 c2 89k miles cleared CEL comes back within 50 miles consistently (4 times now) - code is same everytime: p0420
  2. got p0420 CEL code which is for the cat but before I get new cats ($$$) is there a way to make sure the o2 sensors are good? have a durametric but not sure what to look for... thanks
  3. Anyone know if I can use cats of a 2000 996 on a 2002? parts numbers are not the same. thanks
  4. Checked the receipts and motor mounts are not mentioned - just a "motor" and various fluids. What the diy test procedure for those? I also read it could be the transmission mount being mine is a tip... how does one isolate which of the mounts it is? where are the mounts located? Hoping to peek under and have a look for anything obvious after work thanks
  5. 2002 c2 tip 87k miles new engine installed 6k miles back. This started happening after my first DE of last week. Ran the car pretty hard which I dont typically do... When I apply the gas from a full stop - the car just starts rolling and I get a one time clunk from the rear. Its more of a felling then a sound... and its REALLY felt. Only happens when I gas it a bit not when I just roll off like grandma... shop is closed and I wont be able to make it till next weekend - any ideas before I get it looked it (sort of anal about things being wrong with the car) Was planing on another DE in 3 weeks... thanks
  6. Read on the benz board that folk use an infrared thermometer and test the pan's temperature which sounds like a good approach to me... (What do you think?) measuring what escapes the level bore might be another way...
  7. pre 02's are different... you can use a probe... on the 02+ using the charge hose you told me about, I dont see how you can insert that probe.
  8. Well, looks like I was wrong. Durametric will not read actual values on the mkII tips (G1xx is what durametric calls them). Truthfully, Im somewhat disappointed about that. How do others here measure the ATF temp w/o the proper computer hookup? thanks
  9. larez2 - sounds like you used the hole that tells you that the pan is full to fill the pan :) Loren - do you happen to know the part number for this filler hose? I found this in my docs: "9507/1" but this isnt a part number and the parts department is clueless. thanks

I have a durametric which I read has a tranny oil temp readout - I will need to check this out before doing anything FYI The rest of the procedure: After filling to the the check valve level, start the car, shift through gears r-n-d-p, wait for temp to reach 30-40c top up again till fluid runs out of check valve and close everything up.
  11. thanks for that... What is stopping the fluid from running out once the case is full and its time to disconnect the threaded connector?
  12. The instructions I obtained show that on my02, unlike the instructions on the DIY link for the pre my02, the filling hose has a threaded connector. Does anyone who DIY'ed an my02+ tip ATF change know if this is absolutely needed? can one still use an "upside down J copper pipe" type filler? is the filler opening higher on the case then the check valve that shows proper ATF level? Thanks

The Advanced Technic Package in my 02 consists of Bi-Xenon HID headlamps with washers, remote CD changer, and a 12-speaker Bose digital sound system according to google Can I simply replace speakers with aftermarket ones in a plug and play fashion? Is the Bose amps impedance the normal 4 ohm? What are the cross over points built into the amp - if any? i plan to replace the dash speakers with either co-axial speakers or separates if I can figure out how to ran another pair or wires to the cd changer area... And also replace the muddy woofers in the stock box with aftermarket 6" woofers. I hope to keep the stock amp if at all possible. Any help would be appreciated - I've spend too much time reading conflicting info thanks PS -- Thanks Loren for all the schematics that I already horded off this site :)
