  1. Hi, I rarely have issues with my car, but when i do, i refer to these forums because you all are very knowledgable. My car is a 2008 Carrera 4S coupe with 43K miles. Here's my issue... When I drive on the highway, and hit 70 mph, i get a whine/high pitched sound from the engine. It seems to goes away at about 83 mph (perhaps the exhaust sound drowns this out at this point). This happens at about half throttle at a slow acceleration. The sound goes away too when i take my foot of the gas pedal, so I don't think its a wheel bearing issue. Just thought I'd check here first before i make an appointment at the dealer. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi, recently i noticed the right tiptronic button on my steering wheel a little loose. I'm thinking some internal plastic clip may have broken. I'm hoping this is a replaceable part, and I wont have to buy a whole new steering wheel. I tried researching the web, but the only thing i found was a part to actually replace the top cosmetic part...not the internal assembly. I then tried searching for the part in the part list of off Porsche's website, but couldn't find it. The tiptronic feature does still work though. Its just the button feels like its about to fall off. The steering wheel i have is similar to the XPA steering wheel from the suncoast parts website. If someone knows if this part standalone exists, please let me know with the part number. I usually don't make forum posts bc any issue i usually have has been addressed in the past so i apologize if I missed it. Thank you in advance.
  3. Its US. Automatic transmission. and i dont know if its free wheel of fixed. How can i find this out?
  4. According to my Porsche dealer, i need to get my alternator replaced. If i wanted to buy an alternator for the car, can anyone recommend a good site? Its for an '08 Carrera 4S. Thanks.
  5. hi everyone. so my dad comes up with the great idea of sticking velcro on the dash of a 2008 911 C4S, and of course the velcro comes off. Now, as ive warned him, there was adhesive all over the various spots of the dash where he tested mounting a radar detector on. Also, i told him to go to the dealer for advice on how to remove the adhesive. He went with his gut and used goo gone on the two spots and has caused shininess on the direct center of the dash, and ate through the plastic part of the dash closest to the windshield. What are my options? should i just have the whole dash replaced? is there a cleaner that can be used? is this reparable? i tried to look up parts for dash replacement with no luck. please help. thanks in advance.
  6. so, I bought the tire depth guage. The difference is 1/32. I don't think I'm going to need to change the old tire. What do you think? He car is driven very lightly, so there is hardly any wear on the tires.
  7. So i went to a local auto parts store, and just my luck, they didn't have any in stock. I did the "penny trick" that i found online though. On the new tire, Abe Lincoln's eyes were covered just above his nose. On the older tire, his eyes were exposed right up to his eyebrow. I'm not sure if this helps identify the severity of my tire issue, but any thoughts would help. I still plan on getting the tire tread guage, but i gotta find a store that has them in stock....LOL. Thanks.
  8. Awesome!! Ill go pick up one of those guages after work. After measuring the tire depth later when i get home, i might have more questions if thats cool. Thanks for all the help and info!
  9. Thanks for the quick response. I apologize, but I'm not very good with auto terminology. Im not sure what you mean about the tread, and how do i find out how much tread is left on a tire using the metric you mention? I also forgot to mention that this car is being used as a "sunday" car. It does not go on race tracks or anything...just regular driving.
  10. Hi Everyone, I have a tire question. I have an '08 911 C4S with about 8,700 miles on it. A couple weeks ago, a nail got stuck in my right rear tire. Luckily, i bought an extra tire/wheel insurance that the dealer offerred me when I bought the car, so they replaced the tire with a new one. Will it become an issue if my other tires have 8,700 miles on them? The dealer does not cover the other rear tire since there was no damage to the other tire. The tires that are on the car are the 305/30ZR19(rear) Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I'm also new to this forum, and this is my first Porsche. Thanks Everyone.
