  1. Ok so the campaign didn't help... The car this morning did it again. Started the car all fine. Drove to the local gas station to withdraw money from the ATM, maybe ten minute drive at most. Got back to car started it and Pcm dead... Been using the car everyday for everything... I don't understand the really rare occasion it does act... Do have a car charger in the 12v socket for the iPhone and the iPhone is paired via Bluetooth to the car Car is booked in with porsche... But id really like to know what could be the problem? Logic says it's not anything physical wrong... Else it would do it more often or at least become more frequent... This happens very infrequently EDIT: ok its actaully PCM 3.1 ... my bad ... the version number on the firmware is 12112954 ... i am able to replicate the issue ... which is a start ... so i cycle through the following maybe like 20 times 1. turn off, wait for all systems to be completely off 2. alarm on (lock car) 3. unlock car 4. ignition eventually on the twentieth cycle (maybe even more) the PCM wont come on ... in the cluster the audio and phone is not available ... there is power to the PCM module as i can see the backlights on the buttons of the PCM module light up, but the screen is just dead and wont come on, as if not enough power to the module !? ... i need to remove the fuse wait a little, replace the fuse and it works again ... although the first time i remove the fuse and replaced it the screen had a black line in the center ... left the fuse out for more than a minute replaced and its fine is it a ground issue?
  2. Thanks for the info JFP Guess I will not be doing this... Was hoping for a brighter light... But googling shows the light is dimmer and the risk of melting the lenses... So a no on all fronts
  3. Can anyone recommend a plug and play 6000k xenon look bulb for the cayman without xenons. Noticed the car has the projector headlights and figured a brighter bulb would work well... Or would this not be recommended?
  4. Hi anyone know whats the part number for the sportdesign aluminium trim on the steering wheel as in the picture above? my question maybe should have been, can just this trim be replaced without changing the entire steering wheel if ever it got scratched?
  5. hi just realised it says 987C and not 981 ... are they the same for both models (old and new) of cars?
  6. bought it and **** expensive for such a small piece of plastic ... common part that goes missing ... if anyone is interested the part number is 970 618 959 00 ABDECKUNG COVER
  7. There is a campaign out on the cayman 981 regarding the MOST and cluster... The car was reprogrammed and so far it's seems all good... If anyone has a similar problem maybe the campaign fix will sort it out
  8. what is the little plastic piece part number over the steering lock as identified in the above picture as B ... just realised this for some reason is missing off my car ... and dont know if somehow related to my previous post!?
  9. Hi all ... been a while and back in a Porsche ... smaller one this time around .... have a 2013 Cayman PDK and having some weird problem with the PCM module ... out of the thirty times id start the car it will work fine and turn on ... but there will be one instant where it just wont come on, it will be dead no radio, nada ... switching on and off doesnt help and it seems after some time will it work again ... only after switching off the car and on again ... if it is working while driving no issues ... only happens on car switch on or ignition on that it does this ... i have tried changing fuses, and did not notice that with the pcm not turning on if i pull the fuse out and in again then it works again ... it has been at Porsche and they dont find any faults on the diagnostics and of course murphys law it all works fine when at the dealership anyone else experience such issues with their PCM 3.0 module? i have ruled out battery as the voltage is fine at 13.5V - 14.5V
  10. I've owned an '07 GT3 RS for 14 months and have driven 4,000KM's during that time including a couple of track excursions. I have a North American version without the Clubsport ROW equipment (rollbar, lexan rear window etc). Although the cabin noise is much more present than non GT3 versions of the 997 (I previously owned an '06 997 C4S Cab) I have noticed only minor rattles however nothing unusual. I haven't experienced any resonance or trim rattles at specific rpm levels either. I have read the CS roll bar can be noisy (groans and clicks) as it flexes under load and the lexan rear window is prone to vibration noise especially when the side window is open. Nothing else. guess it is the same then, cool :) ... so i guess the resonance is actually the vibration noise from the rear plastic window and yes the roll cage groans and clicks ... always thought there is a loose metallic wire hitting against the roll cage :)
  11. I know its an RS ... an all track machine ... sound deadening is limited ... so am curious about other RS owners ... how badly does your car rattle? I get a resonance at low revs on the door panels somewhere or maybe its the pillar ... It seems the roll-cage or in that area also tends to make sound as if a piece of wire is hitting against it ... But of course this is really on uneven and bad roads, once on the highway no issues at all ... sure this is all normal ...
  12. I was worried also, until I heard the reasoning behind this smoke during startup. The difference with the flat 6 is that when engine is stopped, a small amount of engine oil collects into the cylinder which in this case is horizontal. Normal straight engines have vertical cylinders so it is a bit differents case. If there was some further reasoning for a GT3 & GT3 RS having this bad habit and "normal" P-cars not, I just don´t recall. Anyway, this amount of oil is very small and should only produce one small blue cloud. Or have I been mislead about this? just want to add to this ... it appears the smoking on startup has basically stopped !? ... still drive the car once a week for about 20km, so no change in the periodicity of when i do drive her ... but ive heard that after a certain mileage the car will stop doing this ... so all smiles here ... (just need to reset the service indicator arrrrrrrrrrrgh ... service rep forgot to when they did the service)
