133xxx on my '99 Boxster, bought in '04 with 50k miles. City/highway/long road trips living in Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley, PA. mpg:17-24. max: 28mpg highway. MAJOR: clutch right after I bought it. MINOR: MAF sensor, just like everyone else, and routine maintenance since then. Burns no oil, loses no fluids. Mobil One every 15000 miles, just like Porsche says. More reliable than any of the Hondas I've owned. No lie. My '05 Cayenne Turbo has to be babied or it'll fall apart. The boxster: bulletproof.

'99 986: 108k. Got it in '04 with 50k. Replaced clutch (was worn when I got it). Numerous tires, rear 3x as much as front. All 4 brake rotors at 105k. Front pads at 60k, then at 105k. Belt at 60k Rear pads at 105k. CEL from MAF sensor at 65k. Ignition switch at 60k. Mobil 1 synthetic every 15k. Plastic rear window replaced at 80k. It's my alternating-day driver, driven every day when the road conditions permit. It's parked out in the elements, driven in every condition, although anything more than a 1/4 in of snow or ice and it's a sled. For the past month there's been ice on the ground, I'm driving my other car, so the 986 has been sitting for 3 weeks. Now the temp light is blinking, even though the car is running at normal operating temp. That's never happened before. Geoff is right. It runs better if you drive it every day. If you let it sit, something stupid will light up for no apparent reason, letting you know that you should've been driving it every day. I would say it's been about as reliable as any other car I've owned. All I ever owned before this were high-mileage Hondas.

My key remote stopped working today too. I can still lock and arm with the key-in-the-door-turn-3-times technique. I'm assuming it's the remote, because not a beep/flash/trunk pop with it, and the little key light flashes bright. Too bad I don't have another one to try it with. Anyone successfully fix theirs? -
How many MPG are you getting from your Boxster?

Here in Philadelphia, my 2.5L 986 gets anywhere from 17 to 21 mpg city. Highway I usually get 23-25. Made a trip 4 hours up to upstate NY, roof off, no cruise, no a/c, nighttime 55 degrees or so, doing 85-90mph, got 25mpg. I thought "not bad." On the way back, sunny 65 degrees, roof off (windows up about half the time), no a/c, cruise control set at 73mph, one 10 minute burst of 120mph just to keep a TT behind me, and ended up with 28mpg! That's a record for me. I wonder what it would've been had I kept the roof on and drove the 65mph limit. But who are we kidding, we're Boxster owners! -

Your mileage is pretty spot-on when you compare it to the EPA's fuel estimate. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm Keep in mind that in most cars fuel economy drops drastically over 60mph.
