  1. I am trying to chase down the latest oddity going on with my 1991 c2 automatic. Speedo works fine at first, then needle bounces and drops completely. The speedo will come back intermittently when hitting bumps. Some times even comes back if I tap on the gauge glass. (kinda like you see in the old WW2 movies in the cockpits) The spoiler can be raised and lowered manually using the center console switch. The problem started shortly after I had the car washed, high pressure jets on the wheels are probably the culprit. After the carwash, I had the brake warning light for a bit, the one depicting the brake shoes. Then the next day my speedo started acting up. The odometer does not register anything while the car is being driven with this fault. I have pulled the speedo and checked / cleaned the contacts on the back. Since I have the Automatic, there is a circular set of pins as well as the straight set of 4. No positive results. Next I guess I will have to pull the LF wheel and look for the ABS sensor to see if something is awry. My mechanic thinks it might also be a "sender" unit from the transmission, since I have the Automatic, but everything I read tells me that the sender unit is part of the ABS wheel sensor. Should I worry about "spoiler" safety? If the spoiler is down at 70mph will I get too light in the rear? Since I drive this car daily I would like it to be perfect, but the car still runs great and other than not knowing how fast I'm going, I'm fine. Hoping for an easy fix this time.
  2. My 964 has 134000 miles now and the other day I was driving home from work and noticed white smoke from the tail and a miss. I pulled off the road, got a tow to my mechanic to have it checked out. Seems as though my head gasket is blown. The engine will be pulled and from past experience with my 1980 SC, I expect a series of "might as wells" while I have the engine out. What do you think I should expect as far as down time and expense? What is recommended to do while I have the opportunity, considering i intend to keep this car as a daily driver for a while. I figure plugs at least. Thanks in advance... Jason
  3. Problem resolved, it was the passenger window switch, stuck in the up position.
  4. Thanks Loren, I'l pass it on and hope to get it sorted. I'm actually having withdrawl symptoms.
  5. My normally reliable 1991 c2 has been at the mechanic for a week trying to figure out why the battery is being drained while the car is off / parked. There is an intermittent 16 amp drain that seems to occur momentarily every 6-15 seconds. Any ideas? There was an old TSB about water getting into the doors and shorting out the locking system I think. I'm really hoping that it is a simple matter. I miss my daily driver. TIA Jason
  6. I had the same problem with my unit. I bought one for parts from EBAY for 75.00 and simply replaced what was the defective switch, has been perfect for a year. I kept the old unit in case I needed more parts in the future. I saved over 1800.00 in parts and learned a bit by opening up the unit. Fairly straightforward design and easily swappable components. Turns out that even if I had known it was only the switch, it would still have cost me 210.00 for a new one. Good luck. 1991 C2 coupe
