  1. Thanks, I am going to follow your advice. I am not planning any long trips soon anyway.
  2. The fault codes are P0430 - something about the catalitic converter and P11402 - fuel meter fault.
  3. After a lengthy road trip, in 40 deg heat and lot of uphill, the check engine light went on. The dealer diagnosed the problem as the oxygen sensor being faulty, ordered the wrong part, so it’s still not fixed. During this road trip I only partially filled the gas tank (in the U.S.A. I needed to prepay, since my credit card didn’t work at the pumps). Could that have contributed to the problem ? I reseated the gas cap, completely filled the tank, and for two more weeks the light was on. This morning it seems to have reset itself. I checked to make sure the bulb is not burned out. I would like an opinion on whether I should replace the oxygen sensor anyway, which is what the dealer suggests ? 2001 Boxster, built in Finland, six speed.
  4. :renntech: I thought it was fixed, however, once I took it out onto the highway it makes that sound, still. It was at the dealers all day today, and they can't find it. They guarantee that it is safe to drive, so I'll drive it until something falls off.
  5. The problem has been repaired - Front upper strut bearings, for $1100.
  6. Thanks for your coments, I'll take them into the mechanic.
  7. Hello. I have a 2001 Boxster S, assembled in Finland, purchased in Canada. I have had this metal on metal sound coming from the left front side of the car. It seems to come from between the drivers seat and the left front wheel. I can "feel" the vibration in the steering wheel (I think - I am getting really paranoid about this). I had Speedway in Victoria check it out, asking them to check the front end and steering. They were not able to find anything wrong. Oddly enough, for this noise to start the car needs to have been driven on the highway or it has to be a hot day in town. I don't know anything about the mechanics of my favourite car of all time, but used to know about cars. Could the problem be rubber bushings for sway bars in the front ? I am going back to the dealer as soon as I get back and try again. Can someone suggest steps for me take to find this problem ?
  8. Thanks for the advice. I had the same thing installed. It sounds great. Unfortunately we don't use the horn much in Victoria. So now I pretend I drive a truck and blow the horn before I back up. I have to do something to make the $185 install worth it.
  9. Mine registers 6 kph faster too. Checked on one of those rodeside "speed registers". I thought the tires I replace were the problem - obvisouly not. I just go kph faser then before.
  10. When I take the cover off the fuse box location, the inside of the cover tells me which fuses relate to appropriate functions in the car. Hopefully, no-one has removed that info from your cover.
  11. I seem to remember reading that the Boxster stores codes of faults which might be a potential problem. Do I remember correctly ? I will be going on a fun road trip on the scenic byway south east of Portland. I'll probably have to have to car towed back to Portland, if anything goes wrong, not that anything has in two years. Should I get the codes checked ? It is a 2001 Boxter S, built in Finland and being joyfully driven in Canada.
  12. I have a 2001 Boxtster S, 6 speed. The stick shift makes a sqeaking sound when used, also there is a sort of quiet thunk for the first four gears. Is it possible to oil or grease the linkage from above by removing the leather (?) skirt covering the bottom of the shifter ? How do I go about removing this skirt and what type of grease should I use ?

Sorry, I put this into the incorrect forum.
  14. The cover is on quite tight on my 2001 Boxster. I just gave it an extra pull. I don't think you could crack it, it's quite thick plastic.
  15. This sounds like an elegant solution. I didn't know that lamp didn't work, until someone at the stop light mentioned it. It was foggy, by the way. I wonder why Porsche chose to light the left side only.
