  1. My CEL light came on dropping my son off to college. I am going to buy an OBD scanner, just in case something serious. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the Latrobe PA area? thanks in advance.
  2. Recently I heard a knocking noise on the right hand side of the engine. After idling for a few mins it goes away. It appears when i do not start w/ the heat/ac controls turned on I do not hear the noise. 2001 carrera cab 64k miles I saw another thread which ppl though it could be tensioners, piston/camshaft. Anyone seen this issue and resolved?
  3. I noticed this week that under hard acceleration 4th and 5th gear when i get to 5000 rpm it drops down to 4000 rpm, and then climbs, when i shift to 5th same thing hit 5000 drops to 4000. 2001 carrera 996 Ideas/thoughts?
  4. Thank u for the response. My battery charger was not providing enough amperage. I called out AAA, and they put their batter booster on the side post and 2 seconds, i was able to pop the trunk. I am going to have the shop fish the battery cable for, great advice.
  5. I have a dead battery and cannot open the trunk. I have tried charging through the cigarette lighter, but not getting any power through there. I have tried connecting to the battery post in the fuse panel and the door post but i get no indicator on the battery charge is being put through. I read an article once that u can remove the right wheel liner and there is a manual handle to release the trunk. Anyone have instructions on this?
  6. OEM windscreen Porsche part# 996.561.125.03. Can someone tell me if this part number will fit in my 2001 996 Cab. It is designed to fit in the 2005-12, so i'm wondering if this was redesigned, so this part will not fit in my car. thanks so much in advance
  7. yes when i pull into the garage i hear the fans running. Im going to clear the radiators out first, i think thats a good first step
  8. i have not, but that is a good first start, thanks Loren
  9. 2001 996 47K miles. The engine temperature or coolant temperature needle has always sat on the 8 (180), once when i did a long 3 hr drive it drifted to then end of the zero, but it was a 3 hr drive on a 90degree day, but no big deal, that was 3 yrs ago. It has always sat on the 8. I noticed recently during city driving in about 15 mins, the needle starts to drift to the end of the the zero, and when its on the highway for a few minutes it would lower back into the beginning of the zero, but never back onto the 8. No leaks under the car, i see no signs of coolant in the engine, nor do i smell coolant dripping onto hot parts. My question is is this a precursor for something failing? Anything i can check? Any advice appreciated.
  10. i dont know about the clutch fork or release bearing, but i did speak to another shop. They also leaned toward the release bearing could be the cause, and its a standard part that is included w/ the clutch kit, so should have been replaced at the time of the clutch repair. I was kind of hoping it was a belt slipping vs clutch repair job, but thanks for the feedback and fast repsonse
  11. 01 996 Cab Here is the scenario. When i release the clutch halfway and add some gas to the bite point some times i hear a squealing noise coming from the rear. It does not do it every time and the car is a daily driver. It seemed to do it more frequent when the weather got warmer, but some days it does not do it all. I had the clutch replaced in Feb 15 when they installed an IMS. When they put in a new clutch, they installed a new flywheel kit also. Any ideas to what this may be? Im hoping its not clutch related as I then have to go into the back and forth of them honoring their work. I already called the shop and they informed me their is no warranty on the clutch repair, which i find unacceptable. Opinions welcome
  12. 2001 C2 Cab. I got a used hard top for my convertible it was off an 02 996, and it fits good and the rear defroster light comes on, but it does not clear the rear window. is there some other connection I need to make? I didn't see any.
  13. i am purchasing a used hard top and require the dimensions and weight for shipping. Does anyone have it?
  14. Thanks White987S, I just listened to the video they sound real good, im going to call for prices
