    Oil change

    Make sure you use a larger wrench to hold the welded-on flats where the drain plug on the oil tank is located. You do not want to over-stress the fitting by torquing on it without the other wrench countering this torque. Do this both for loosening and retightening the drain plug. Also, use new sealing washers on both the oil tank and the crankcase drain plug. I also use a clean paper towel to wipe out the interior of the oil filter cartridge holder, as well as the cap. Take some time and inspect the filter cartridge for metal filings.

    Tires for GT3RS

    I changed to Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my 997.1 RS, and have driven in the rain on them. They felt just fine, with no indication of slipping around. I didn't push them, but I didn't tip-toe around either. Great tire, but being that it doesn't carry the N-spec, your Porsche dealer either won't mount them, or will require you to sign a liability waiver as mine did.

    GT3 engine cost

    I agree with the suggestion to sell your car and buy a GT3. Far better economics in the future, and the car is amazing in comparison to your C2. I made a similar decision, and have never regretted it for a minute.

    I have a 2007 RS, and the LWFW does rattle a bit, and it doesn't pull away from a dead stop quite as easily as the heavier unit on non-RS cars. The idle is a little rough, but not horribly so. Snowboarder, I hope to someday emulate you with a 3.9 conversion of my own. I have read of your experiences, and it seems to be a great - if very expensive - mod.
  7. How involved was the roll bar installation. Besides the PITA carpet piece, what is your estimation of the time involved? Is it easy to damage interior items during the install process?

    Rattles on the RS

    I have a very slight resonance near the dash speaker at about 2800 to 3000 rpm. Very slight, but other than that, quiet as can be.

    Nct510, I am in the process of installing RSS rear toe links, rear links (dog bones), lower control arms front & rear, and motor mounts. Did you do the install yourself? Was it very involved? Special tools required? How were the results of your mods? Thanks in advance.

    Audio System

    I installed the best Kenwood NAV/Stereo system with a high-quality external amp and 3-way Hertz speakers in the doors/dash. No subwoofer needed as the bass response is more than sufficient. Very satisfied with the system.

    Rear main seal leak

    Mine (an orange 2007 RS) was replaced three times under warranty, the latest one is perfect so far at 18K+ miles. As I understand it, they are designed to seal under vacuum, and "garage queens" leak due to loss of vacuum if not driven enough . I drive mine nearly every day, and it hasn't dripped one bit. I bought one of those inexpensive drip pans, and as always happens when you prepare for an eventuality - it never happens! In regards to the smoking upon start up; that is perfectly normal, mine is a regular mosquito fogger for a second or two upon starting, and then it is perfectly smoke-free. These cars are absolutely amazing, you have to expect and accept a few race-car like quirks. If you have ever seen an Indy car, or other race car up close - leaking is part of life with many of them.
