One of the keys for may 2006 Boxster had a big crack in the housing (dropped or just overuse .. not sure) so I ordered a new housing online from Ebay, I transferred the electronics and the laser cut key to the new housing (with some difficulty because of finicky pieces) and for good measure replaced the battery. All seemed to go well -- the new key housing seems to work, unlocks trunk, frunk and doors and appears to do all the things like flashing the red light when pressed, The car appears to recognize the identity of the key by displaying the correct key in the dashboard display when unlocking occurs. But when inserted in the ignition the key is not recognized and will not start the car. Have I missed some critical step?

My car (2006 Boxster) doesn't have seat warmers (not a good choice for the climate I live in but that was the way it came). I am poking around and I see that there are a number of aftermarket kits and also professional installers. Anybody purchase a kit and install it and or have an installer do the upgrade? Did it go well? Happy with the result? What did it cost?

Anybody used one of those memory saver devices designed to keep power on for ECU devices when the battery is disconnected. I presume they will work for my 987? I see three types out there: 1) ones that plug into a power outlet and have a 9 volt battery power source 2) ones that connect to the battery terminals and have a 9 volt battery power source 3) ones that connect to the OBD plug and require a separate 12 volt source (either via battery terminal connects or power plug source) I presume all would work with the Boxster. Any advantage/disadvantage to any of them?

Actually I think I found an easier solution. A little more research and I found apparently these wireless send/receive units are made in 3 different configurations, one of which includes a trigger wire on the receiver specifically designed to trigger multimedia heads to display rear camera by attaching to the lead in the unit. Presumably the lead to the backup lights originates somewhere in the cockpit as well - I was thinking that might be a good source if I knew where to look. -
I am in process acquiring knowledge (and tools and parts) to upgrade the CDR-24 in my 2006 Boxster (tiptronic equipped) to a 2din aftermarket head unit. All is going well -- I have acquired the bezel replacement kit, wiring harness kit, have decided on the head unit and new door speakers (though those are still on the to buy list), and have sourced good online information for removing the CDR-24 and replacing door speakers As part of the job I am currently planning on installing a backup camera. The plan is to use one of those wireless transmitter/receiver units to avoid the hassle of running video wire from the back to the cockpit. That requires that I access a signal in the cockpit to trigger the backup display in the head unit (and also to trigger the return to normal display). All the information I can find suggests using the backup light at the rear light assembly as the signal trigger. That would seem to negate the whole "wireless" strategy though so is sub optimal at best. Any suggestions as to where to acquire the signal inside the cockpit with the least turmoil?
