  1. Hi, i have a problem, my 997 Turbo has a fault in the airbag system. I changed the front right airbag sensor, must have done something stupid with my Piwis 2 Tester, because now the airbag warning light on the dash is blinking. Does anyone know what’s wrong? thanks Peter
  2. Does anyone know where to buy a service manual for the 997.1 Carrera? I cannot find one. I have seen a 996 manual from Bentley manuals, and there are many similarities between the 996 and 997- but there are notable differences, too. Thanks, Jim
  3. hopefully simple question. helping 996 owner on facebook 996 site. he asks if rear view mirror for 996 and 997 interchangeable.
  4. Hello all, I've got a 2008 997 C4 w/ 56k miles on it. It was cold this morning (30 degrees F) and I noticed clutch slip for the first time since I bought the car in higher gears under full throttle. The clutch pedal feels very mushy and lost alot of its spring on the return. I stopped by my local shop and he confirmed its the clutch. The car is my daily driver but I do autocross about once a month and intend to track in the future. I told myself I'd get the light weight flywheel when its time to replace the clutch, and so it seems that time has come. I'm not adverse to the extra noise of the LWFW, but I've heard that you shouldn't do this mod on a C4. I see sharkwerks has a C4 project car with the LWFW so I assume it worked out, but who knows. Aside from the flywheel obviously I need a clutch. I've been looking at the Sachs stage 2.5 performance clutch kit, and it seems like a good option. I've also heard that the BBI clutch slave cylinder is an upgrade that would be helpful for clutch performance and feel. Questions: -Anyone have any experience with a LWFW on a C4? -Anyone have any experience with the Sach's stage 2.5 kit on a C4? -Any other clutch kit recommendations? -Anyone have any experience with replacing the clutch slave cylinder? Note: I'm going to get my IMS bearing inspected but if its not leaking I think I'm going to pass, seeing how I have 56k miles on it with no issues. Perhaps its past the infant mortality stage? Thanks, Jim
  5. Hey gang, hopefully someone can answer a few questions for me. I have a 997.2 cab, and recently bought a set of Turbo II wheels – when I spoke to my local dealership, they informed me the offset was wrong and the wheels wouldn’t work on the car. Anyone have thoughts? What size tires are you running if you have the same setup? Any help is appreciated. Here are the part numbers: Front 997.362.157.02 – 8x11 ET57 Rear 997.362.163.02 – 11x19 ET51 Thanks, Chris
  6. Dear All, Can anyone please advise if the following data is correct for my recent wheel alignment job done? I don't have the original / correct data in hand, just want to make sure. Thx
  7. A friend and I have been struggling with a strange problem with his 2006 997 4S with tiptronic transmission. When you start his car you need to turn the key and let it crank on the starter motor for around 10 seconds before it will start, and when it does it seems to be a bit lumpy for the first second or two. However, if you shut it down while it is running and restart it right away it fires straight up within a second. We have pulled off a coil pack and put a new plug into it (earthed out with a jump lead) and observed that while it is cranking there is no spark, apart from maybe one every 3 seconds, and then rapid sparking at the plug as soon as it fires up. We have also hooked up fuel pressure monitoring kit to the car, and the fuel pressure seems to be right, as I thought it may be the fuel pump check valve or pressure regulator bleeding off pressure, but then we discovered what was happening with the spark not being there until 10 or so seconds of continuous cranking. We have hooked the car up to the PIWIS and PIWIS-2 that the local Porsche approved bodyshop loaned to us, and there are no fault codes anywhere. We also had hoped to watch the live data while cranking, but it seems that communication disconnects during starter motor cranking, which we are told is normal. The strange thing is that the car idles fine, runs fine, no hesitation, we have followed the Porsche test plan for checking the mass airflow sensor, we have used a smoke machine on the intake to look for vacuum leaks, we have even checked the various temperature sensors on the PIWIS and all seem to be reporting good temperatures. While we had the PIWIS-2 we even reprogrammed the DME with the latest software, which it said was already loaded but we did it anyway in case something was corrupted. We have even disconnected the battery over night and tried the various re-training adapting methods on the internet. Fuel trims are all hovering around 900 and 1.1 We have even changed the crank sensor for a new one and no difference. If it were not for the loss of spark, I would be tempted to say it was the fuel pressure bleeding off, because it is a little like it is trying to get fuel back up to the injectors when cranking, which would also explain the way it only has this problem 5 mins after shutting the engine down, but not less than 5 mins. Does the 997 DME monitor oil pressure before it supplies a spark? My reason for asking is that this would also be something which would match up with the symptoms, once the oil pressure has bled off completely, it would take a few cranks to regain it, especially if the oil circuit had a fault... But when running the oil pressure is good, however it does seem to be that the oil pressure is at the bottom on the instruments when cranking and either it shoots up and then the engine runs, or maybe it just shoots up due to the engine running at a faster speed than starter motor cranking. We even worried it may be cranking a little slower than the DME was happy with, so even replaced the dreaded alternator/starter motor/charging harness on the engine.. Which now has it cranking a fraction faster, but still the same problem. Having compared the cranking speed to my Boxster and 996, it seems to be turning over at the same kind of speed. Any ideas anyone??
  8. Hi Everyone, I'm doing the 996 to 997 GT3-RS front conversion and need to re-pin the headlight connector as the 997 use A5 Pin instead of A4 as the 996 (for the High Beam) My question is how can I remove the pin from A4 and put it back in A5 ? How to re-pin the headlight connector ? I did a lot of search and didn't find anything specific on Porsche 996. Thanks Alex
  9. Hi folks, I live in Boca Raton, I have a 2005 997 - 911 with 93k miles. I'm not a rich man. I'm looking for recommendations for service and repair in the south Florida area ideally someone who would like to work on a gentle restoration or a recommendation for a reasonable shop that will do good work for a reasonable price i.e. not dealer rates. I need a replacement alternator i think as the bearings have just gone (sounds like that anyway) and all the belts should be due by now. Anyone with experience in maintaining this vehicle who wants to earn a little extra please contact me or if anyone has a show they would personally recommend I'd be very grateful. Mark.
  10. Hello everyone, first of all, i would like to excuse my bad english, im from germany. My name is Dominic and i drive a Cayman S. I really love this car, but i hate the seats. I bought a pairs of "König" seats and im about to install them this weekend. The only problem is, no Dealer does the coding to dissable to dissable the thorax Airbags. So i need to add some resistors on the cables. Can somebody tell me where i have to wire the resistors? I found this topic with the same question, but no answer: Thank you very much in advance!!
  11. Well, I have an engine that needs to be worked on. However it is on the floor and I need it to be on the engine stand. How do I go about strapping this thing down so I can move it ??
  12. The sunroof on my 2005 C2 S is struggling to open/close properly because (I think) the lubrication on the spiral cables is old and gummed up. I would like to remove the cables so that I can clean and re-lubricate them. Can anyone advise the easiest way to do this? I'm really hoping someone knows how to do this without having to remove the headlining and frame etc.
  13. Looking through the PET I noticed that M96 3.6 997's use a different pressure plate but the same clutch as the 3.6 996. I have read online that the 997 clutch pedal is lighter than the 996, wondering if I can install a 997 pressure plate in a 996, anyone tried it?
  14. hi everyone, im being haunted with TPMS now. first problem is left side appear req??? if u check in tyre pressure, meter keep pop out TPC inactive, system learning. so below is what i have done; -check battery life, FR 0 month. i changed FR wheel sensor -after changed the sensor, i run about 5km (TPC inactive still pop out) -i diagnosed again n check battery life, RR 0 month then.. ****! -i dont believe the scanner, so i do system adaptation -problem still same, i then swap rear tyre. -scanner still show RR 0 month, i then swap TPMS rear antena -problem still same..now i dont know what to do. im wondering how TPMS get wheel electronic ID? i noticed 1 thing, first time i check the ID *******217 at FL, then today 217 at RL! anyone get the clue? i have running the car more than 20km but it still learning.
  15. The vehicle is a 2005 997 Carrera 3.6. I cannot find the part #'s for the 3 power steering pump mounting bolts. They are exposed after removing the power steering pump pulley. In the attached picture you will see 3 holes in an upside down U shape behind the triangular pulley mount. I tried my local dealer without any luck.
  16. 2006 C2 Cab. Front lid won't operate either with remote or cabin switch. All my research on the web indicated the most likely culprit was the trunk lid actuator. I read that the solenoid sometimes fails because of the heat. Ordered the part from Pelican and installed but no luck. It was warm and made a noise when I plugged it in but nothing. Then most likely is the cabin switch although the engine compartment switch works fine. Got that part and installed, no luck. In many reviews of the chart I see no fuse dedicated to this operation. I'm now (unfortunately) very familiar with the manual methods to get the lid open when the switch won't work. Extremely frustrated! Any other thoughts? I'm out of ideas other than take it to the shop. Thanks!!
  17. I just bought a 2006 Carrera 4. It saying PCM on the original bill of sale... does that mean I have navigation? When I press the NAV button it is saying NAV is not available. I think the DVD might be missing and I know I can buy them on Ebay, but where is the actual DVD slot. I downloaded the PCM 2.1 manual but the information is very limited and it doesn't tell me where the actual DVD player is located. Where is the DVD player?
  18. I'm getting a weird buzzing noise (buzz/whine) when above 4000 RPM. It's a 997S 1st gen no mods, with about 70k on it. It sounds a bit like the car is struggling at anything past 4000 RPM.. It happens in gear and in neutral. When its hot and cold. if anyone has any ideas of parts I should look at, that may be causing this, please let me know! I'll post a video of the sound in the next couple of days too, so you can hear what it sounds like. Thanks a lot!
  19. Hi, I need winter tires on my 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera. I found some used 19" (99736215602) ET57 8x19 front with 225/40r19 and (99736216202) ET51 11x19 rear with 255/35r19. My question is, will these fit my carrera? The owner have had it on a 996 Turbo (not 997 Turbo). Thanks :notworthy:
  20. Recently I have been thinking of an exhaust system upgrade for my 2005 997 C2S which I have been driving for quite some time. Can any of you guy help by suggestion on this issue? My 997 is basically standard apart from a set of BBS forged wheels. I am hunting for something that product nicer sound plus hopefully better flow and performance. Any experience and suggestions on where to shop, please reply.
  21. Hello, I recently purchased a used 2009 Carrera and had it delivered missing the front undercarriage panel, as well as the three panels in the truck area that cover the battery and areas to the left and right, above the boot. Does anyone know how to determine the correct part numbers? Have a source for purchasing these parts? vin# WP0AA29939S706301 Thank you for your time,
  22. Does anyone know how many 997 Targa's were produced? I've looked all over but have only been able to find the total number of 997's produced but not by model.
  23. I have a deal on a 2005 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet with the 3.8L, 47500 miles. The deal is pending a PPI by the local Porsche dealer, I'm not buying it from the dealer. After all this talk of IMS bearings I'm concerned. The car fax is clean. I visited the Porsche dealer and they ran a service report that shows a warrantee repair at 11000 miles ( 13590 sealing f cranks, flywh / 5043 oil loss) When I got this report the service manager said this was a good thing that the seal was replaced because the newer seal is better than the original. Any advice on this IMS bearing issue would be appreciated before I make the purchase.
  24. I just bought used 2006 997 4S with 114000 km, last service history 80000km. What service will you recommend to perform? Thank you
  25. I am installing a Dension Gateway 500 and a BTA 1500 in my 997 S Cabriolet. I am trying to find the best way to route the BTA
