  1. I'd appreciate a second set of eyes to verify these part numbers. 2003 C2 6MT Red Arrow: 996-106-233-56 Green Arrow: 996-106-212-61 Yellow Arrow: 996-106-222-67 I'm least sure of the 3rd one but it looks like they simplified it for the Mk2 but didn't bother to update the Illustration because one end of this has 2 connections in the illustration but mine doesn't and the picture on Pelican Parts looks like mine, so I think I'm right. Thanks for the help!
  2. 2002 C2 manual: Problem: when parked outside in freezing temperatures, oil leaks from the lower oil pump connector, item 7 in diagram below. When parked in a warm environment, it remains dry. Anyone had that problem? Should I replace the gasket #8? M96.01/02/03 Oil Pump M96.04 WWW.AUTOATLANTA.COM
  3. Hi Guys, I bought a 1999 996 C2 and it now has 135K miles. I lived in a state where I didnt need to smog it for a decade. Now that I live in California, I went to smog the car and had failed due to lean fuel mix issue at slow RPMs on the NOX test. Since the car hasn't had a lot of repairs on it in the last few years, I figured it was time to replace some basic stuff. I ordered a bunch of new O2 sensors off Fleabay and installed them. Boom I now get almost instant P1115 and P1119 codes. I read Lorans advice on checking the ohms... Here is what my old units read and here is what the new plug and play O2 sensors are reading Old O2: 2.7 ohms Old O2: 2.9 ohms New O2: 4.9 ohms New O2: 4.8 ohms The parts have the same part number stamped into the connections. However it's clear that the 996 is extremely unhappy with the new units. I take it that there is no way to reset the ECM to use the new ohms range... Should I replace the old units again until I can source new sensors and make sure they dont have a reading over 2.5? Thoughts? Pappy
  4. '99 c2 6spd 167000mi Okay guys, Finally got my new water pump up on the engine. I go to torque the bolts and I get around to the last bolt only to have it bottom out! I jump back into the porsche parts Katalogue and sure enough it lists a 30mm and 25mm long bolt! can somebody illustrate for me which locations receive the shorter bolt? they all looked the same when I pulled them out :( rookie mistake for the old guy! :D thanks in advance all!
  5. Hey guys, Got my Durametric in hand finally. Plugged in to my 99 C2 to diagnose my airbag light. All I get is "code 0" module failed to initialize. Am I missing some step to accessing the airbag unit? Can durametric not help me on my 99? Off to read some help files/the manual :) thoughts? thanks!
  6. I have a 1999 US spec C2 Coupe with a Tiptronic. I bought the car 2 years ago with 60k miles on it, and recently turned 103k miles. I've had to fix the various oddities of this model, but as of yet i have no oil leaks and the car has run great until today. While crusing on the interstate I felt a "thud" from the rear of the car, and the engine lost power. I was able to coast down an exit ramp and onto a side road where the AAA flatbed would soon pick me up. When I turned the key I could hear the starter motor running (fast) but there was no apparent engagement with the flywheel. There are no fluids dripping onto the ground that i've seen with other massive failures. When I get home from work i'll hookup the Durametric and see if there are any interesting codes, but for now i'm trying to determine what the next steps should be. So here are a couple of other pieces of information. About a week ago as i was leaving for work in the morning i heard a "whirling" or "spinning" sound coming from the back -- moderately slow in frequency, and only when the car was deaccelerating. The sound was almost like a fan blade hitting a plastic shroud every rotation - but with a bit more of a differential-whine to it. When the car was up to operating temperature the noise would go away. Others on the forum have described this noise with the suggestion that it is a wheel bearing - but i was able to convince myself that it wasn't a wheel bearing by putting the tran in neutral while the car was rolling. The noise was controllable by engine speed - not by road speed, which seemed to point more towards engine/tran than wheel bearling. I drove the car for the next 3 days and noticed that the noise was about the same - and always went away when the engine was up to operating temp.. I hooked up my Durametric and found no error codes. I reset the adaptations to see what effect that would have on the Tip. The next morning the car started rough but within 30 seconds was purring smooth. I assumed that the adaptation reset was the cause of this. Best yet -- the whirling noise was no longer happening. As a side note - my fuel mileage improved by 1 mph after the adaptation reset - but that could be just dumb luck. So back to this morning -- "thud" on the highway, and a tow-truck. I haven't started digging into my shop manuals yet -- but i'm assuming that i've had a failure in the Tip - maybe the torque converter? The older German cars that i have have been manual gear boxes -- a clutch failure wouldn't necessarily prevent me from starting the engine - but i'm not familiar with the automatics. This sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance -- this forum rocks, and the last 40k miles on this car have been a blast - in part because of all of the good information this forum offers.
  7. This morning I pulled my 996 out let it warm up took it for a nice 5 mile rip to the gas station came back to my house let the car sit for about 20 minutes no issues at this point, I go to leave my driveway is kind of long and goes up a small slope, backing up the driveway I hear a slight creak once then once again when my car goes from the driveway to the street I continue to drive and pretty much on every bump I hear the creak...I proceed to take the car to the local Big O tire shop they throw the car on the lift, thought my bushings needed to be greased...didnt know they were factory sealed :) we took a once over of the car everything appeared fine, I showed them the squeak and we located it coming from the front left suspension, think it could be the spring or the strut...any suggestions on what to do car performs fine just makes that sound and I hate it....i am in Sacramento any suggestions on where to take it dont want to go to neillo rockin, thank you in advanced sorry for bad punctuation also car has never made suspension noise prior and out of the last two weeks has seen about 7 days of rain driving or in wet weather
