  1. Okay guys, I have been getting the CEL with this code for a while... reset, drive a few times, no light... then returns on way home from Autocross... So I order a post-cat O2 sensor and when I go to put it on, I notice that the Cat for bank 1 (Driver side) is on the other side because the exhaust crosses behind the engine... I assumed that since it monitored the exhaust from bank one that it just plugged in on the other side of the engine bay. I thought I was right because I drove it a few times with no light but on my way to Autocross last weekend, it came on again. Before I start undoing stuff, do I have it backwards or does the car look at it as Bank1 if the sensor is plugged in on the Bank 1 side. As anyone who has done this knows, it is a pain in the butt to get these in and out of a 996 GT3 so prior to subjecting myself to the discomfort, I figured I would solicit advice. Thanks!!!
  2. Happy Holidays, My 1998 5 speed with 2.5L engine has fault codes 1128 and 1130. They popped up about a month ago when I took off in too high of gear and lugged the engine a little. We cleared the codes, but they are back. The vehicle registration is due on 1/8 and a CA smog is required. The car has always bellowed smoke occasionally on start up, but not very often though. Notice how oily it is around the intake? Is that normal? Should we try replacing the Air Oil Separator? The engine runs and starts great. We are piddling around with it now. The air filter is clean. We have the MAF sensor out and it looks okay. I'm reluctant to clean it (we have cleaner) because last time I tried (a decade ago perhaps) it had to be replaced. We don't have a fuel pressure test gauge, but am willing to buy one. Vacuum leaks are not apparent. I guess we'll look for vacuum leaks with smoke, we have cigars, no cigarettes.
  3. Hey guys, So I'm having this issue that is driving me crazy. My SAI (Secondary AIr Injection) and Oxygen Sensor are not reaching "Ready Status" A little background about my car. 2006 Boxster S 3.2L FVD Exhaust system GMS Headers with 200 cell cats - has all 4 O2 sensors attached. 996 throttle body and distribution hose ECU Tuning Group tune I had the car up in BC Canada since 2009 (although it is a US car) and had no problems passing the sniffer and obdII tests - both before and after all the mods except for the ECU tune. I went to get my emissions testing done last week in Texas and failed due to the 2 systems being in not-ready status. I figured it might have to do with the cat delete (ROW) configured in the tune. I sent my ECU back to ETG in California and had them re-flash my ECU in order to re-enable the O2 sensors. I cleared all codes and figured I would start fresh. I drove the car about 120 miles and attempted to follow the drive cycle mentioned in the forums but it was really tough with the roads out here. Everything is in ready status except for the SAI, and the O2 sensor. I can manually start the SAI using the Durametric system so I would believe the pump is not bad; however, I'm not sure that I"m hearing the SAI start up when I cold start the engine. For testing purposes I unplugged my O2 sensors from both bank1 and bank2 and they both threw fault codes which confirms that the ECU tune re-activated my sensors. I've uploaded a few pictures with the results from a OBDII app as well as the Durametric Software to my Google Drive. I'm not quite sure how to interpret the Durametric Voltage results - especially the negative 50 V and -127V - seems quite odd. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4ncE-o5M02DeUlLZVlxRV9hX3c Any help or guidance will be appreciated as I'm out of ideas. Thanks, Joel
  4. Hi All, I am a new owner of a slightly modified 2003tt and love it. I bought it about 2 months ago and just last month the check engine light came on. I went and bought the durametric entusiast cable (which I read about here - thanks to everyone) and read a p1145. I watched the o2 sensors while the car was running and they seem good (voltage fluctuating and both bank 1 and bank 2 seem to have simular readings.) I did notice the sensors after the cat have spacers. (PPI didn't state that and I didn't know a thing about it until reading forums). Anyway a long story short I was reading the maintenance records of the car and noticed one mentioned a small crack in the aftermarket header (oh yeah techart headers and exhaust and I believe k24 turbos and GIAC flashed) - anyway I looked and in the collector of the bank 1 header it looked like a small black line which I assumed might be the crack. Would a crack in the header cause a P1145? Any other good checks? Car seems to run fine but rich at startup. Lots of power. Any help would be great! Thanks all!
  5. Hi Guys, I bought a 1999 996 C2 and it now has 135K miles. I lived in a state where I didnt need to smog it for a decade. Now that I live in California, I went to smog the car and had failed due to lean fuel mix issue at slow RPMs on the NOX test. Since the car hasn't had a lot of repairs on it in the last few years, I figured it was time to replace some basic stuff. I ordered a bunch of new O2 sensors off Fleabay and installed them. Boom I now get almost instant P1115 and P1119 codes. I read Lorans advice on checking the ohms... Here is what my old units read and here is what the new plug and play O2 sensors are reading Old O2: 2.7 ohms Old O2: 2.9 ohms New O2: 4.9 ohms New O2: 4.8 ohms The parts have the same part number stamped into the connections. However it's clear that the 996 is extremely unhappy with the new units. I take it that there is no way to reset the ECM to use the new ohms range... Should I replace the old units again until I can source new sensors and make sure they dont have a reading over 2.5? Thoughts? Pappy
  6. As luck would have it, the day before I take the car for inspection the CE comes on. The friendly folks at Auto Zone diagnosed it as a O2 sensor. I don't recall the code at the moment, will follow up with that later. At first he was not sure if it was an 'upstream' or 'downstream' sensor....further questioning led him to say 'upstream' but not real sure he got it right. So, where is the location of the 'upstream' sensor? Location of downstream sensor? Are there only two sensors? Is this a DYI in the driveway repair? am fairly handy with tools but is a lift needed? A quick search shows bosch replacements - are they perform as well as OEM? Thanks for your help John
  7. Just a quick question. I've replaced my post cat Lambda sensor with one of these, due to a P0160 code (bank 2 post cat issue), now the car is giving P0050 and P0154 errors (bank 2 pre cat issue). I’m in a quandary now, as I have just gone on there to check for a Pre cat O2 sensor and noticed that the date for the part I fitted was 09/01 – 07/04 and was wondering whether the part I fitted was wrong? No errors on post cat sensor! My car is a 2005 C4S with and M96.03 engine. Also is it usual for one sensor to be replaced just for one that is not replaced to throw an error Any help appreciated. If the parts are interchangeable I'll get the pre cat sensor to go with it, otherwise I'll have to find the correct part. regards, Anthony
  8. I need to replace the O2 sensor on my 1999 996 TT. Two questions 1) Is there one or 2 post cat O2 sensors on the car? (are there two cats?) 2) any info on the replacement? I searched and can't seem to find any details. do I need to put it on a lift or can I get to it with jackstands. Any hints or tricks? Thanks all. I appreciate the great feedback.
  9. Hi I'm new here. I have a 2000 Porsche Carrera convertible. I have been looking for O2 sensors for it. I don't want the universal kind. I found some direct fit ones on Ebay for $89 for before and after Cat. I have done some research and it seems like they are the same except the cable lenght. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-996-Carrera-Oxygen-O2-sensor-99-01-/120774566800?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1c1eb9a390 Does anybody else have any places for good deals? Markus
