  1. Greetings, fellow 996 owners. First-time poster here, but I have been a member of Rennlist for about a year after my purchase of a 40th anniversary 911 (nr. 0711). Last week I posted information on Rennlist about a registry that I have been working on for our 40th anniversary cars. The owners of the “30 Jahre 911” cars have their own website registry (http://jubi.pocg.de/pages/en/welcome.php), which is a great way to document the location of those cars, to allow interaction among their owners, and to create a history of each car. I have the 40AE registry divided into two files that you can access using this web address: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/402gqbvsv92uz4l/Is2tIKl-ErOne of the files is a list of cars for which I found numbers, with thumbnail photos to verify the identity of the cars. The other file is a list of cars, also with thumbnail photos for identification, for which I could not find numbers. I ask that the people who now own or previously owned a 40AE verify that I have their number correct or give me the numbers for their cars. I plan to keep these files updated. If someone else has the resources and ability to create a website or interactive registry, I would be happy to work with them. I am doing this as a hobby because I love my car and its heritage and enjoy the stories that about each of these vehicles. I am confident that I have some incorrect information in the registry because I am relying on the accuracy of sale listings for many of the numbers, and car sellers are often inaccurate with their details. Any suggestions how to improve this would be much appreciated. I’ve also posted this info on 6speed, pff, 911uk, and club911, and will likely find a few more international boards to try to make the registry as complete as possible.I could use some help with numbers for the following RT members, even if they no longer own a 40AE. For those who have sold their cars, if they have any information about the current owners, that would be helpful.cakasa MadCow flxzcat nagold252 Kendall treztraylor 911-955 Kirk1176 Doclen rickster911If I missed anyone that you know of please let me know. As I said before, if anyone has any suggestions to improve the project, like adding a column for IMS replacement or failure, that information could be helpful to future owners of these great cars. If I do not have a photo of your car in the registry and you want me to add one please either post one here or message me. I have much more research information on most of these cars, meaning more than what is shown in the registry files. If you need information on any particular car please send me a message. Thank you. PS – I’m well aware of the obligatory photos that are expected of a first-time poster. Here they are – enjoy!
  2. On June 18th 2003 a Porsche guy named "Tool Pants" and I decided that there was too much "inaccurate" and "misinformation" about technical aspects, modding and repairs of Porsches on the Internet. We saw this particularly in several "Porsche" forums where many thought they were getting good advice... but were not. We frequented several boards and like a few other folks got tired of wading through off topic messages and questions that had been asked over and over again. We decided that we needed, and perhaps others needed, a place to find quality technical solutions -- all in one place. So rather than answering a question 3 or 4, or 10 times via email we decided to build a repository of this kind of information (RennTech.org). Tool Pants would handle the Boxster stuff and I would handle the rest of the Porsche line (and technical web stuff). An avid (fanatical?) Porsche owner joined the site a day later (June 19th, 2003) and encouraged us to take the site further adding special areas for TSBs and other Porsche documentation. And he put his money where his mouth was buying and gifting his early subscriptions to Porsche documentation to RennTech.org. That was the late Don Watson (doncapecod). Don was the biggest and best supporter this site had for the nine years leading up to his passing last July. He will be missed -- but we will continue to offer the same great support that he helped us build. Rest in peace Don. Most of the moderators here are guys that we have had extended email and board conversations with over the years... and had some of the same desires we had. Some are old-timers that have owned Porsche's for 25 years or more, some are racers, and some are attorneys that have a passion for Porsche's. And many more are Porsche shop owners and techs... and yes we even have a couple of former Porsche factory employees helping out here. Great comradery and support from all of them! Some of them have come and gone over the years but the quality of the advice here continues to be the best Porsche technical advice on the Internet! A big THANK YOU to all of you "volunteers"! So far we have made it 10 years without major advertising or sponsors. That means that the 6 to 7 percent that donated and continue to contribute to the costs of running this site deserve a big THANK YOU also. Without you this site would likely have shut down years ago. Contributions (donations) will ensure RennTech.org can continue to operate and pay the rising costs of operating a large (over 75,000 members) website. So let's hope they keep coming. This little adventure is not a business or money making idea for me as all donations go into the costs of running the site. Finally, thanks to everyone who uses RennTech.org, and to everyone who will use it in the future. Thanks to a RennTech.org community -- that I am proud to be part of. Thank you again! I can’t wait to see what the next ten years bring. (and here is what the site looked like in August 2003)
