  1. Okay this is REALLY specific. The adjustable tension cable on the drivers side of my cabriolet disconnected at the top where it threads (8mm) into the top frame, not at the bottom where it snaps onto the ball. The is a larger diameter (10mm?) clean smooth painted hole where the cable needs to thread in, which leads to the presumption that there was a nut on the back side? Searched all over including removing driver's side rear 'door' panel and fishing around with a magnet but no loose nut found. Looks like getting to back side of this frame casting would entail a major disassembly of the cabriolet top frame? Also, what does this clip that goes over hydraulic cylinder do? Right side clips is in place about halfway down length of cylinder. Left side clip was down around the base of the shaft. Replacing it where there appears to be a shiny spot looks like it would interfere with the cabriolet top potentiometer arm. Right cable threaded into frame at top Right cable threaded into frame at top Missing cable location Smooth clean painted hole in top frame where 8mm cable end is supposed to thread in Left cable Left upper cable end with 8mm thread Clip question
  2. Cabriolet side/mud flaps are actuated by this lead screw which is attached to the shaft of the drive motor. If your tops gets out of synch as mine did when the bolt that holds a side arm casting to the hydraulic piston fell out, then it creates a cascading nightmare of fragile part failures. First that spindly potentiometer arm with the lightening holes to save a hundredth of gram of plastic breaks off, now these. This tiny molded soft plastic nut runs on what I measure as a M8 x 1.5 pitch lead screw, which is apparently less common than the M8 x 2 pitch lead screw used in 3D printers. It is ridiculous to replace the entire side flap assembly because this soft plastic lead screw nut gets run to the end and stripped/cracked so it runs too slow and the computer times out. Has anyone sourced this lead screw nut or a replacement M8 x 1.5 pitch lead screw nut with a triangular or round flange that could be cut down square to insert into the carrier that operates the flap?
  3. Hi guys, Newbie to the forum here. I have a 2002 996 C2 Cab new to me and been enjoying it since I got it 2 years ago. Mostly trouble free until two weeks ago when the cab top started to acting up and then quit all together. I had to do the emergency manual procedure, after checking all the obvious stuff (i.e. fuses, relays, micro-switches all tested and works). I started taking the mechanism apart, checked, cleaned and lubed everything, put it back together, run the calibration (Durametric), things start to work again wonderfully (or so I thought). The clam-shell lid started to hesitating and eventually got stuck halfway. I had to do the manual emergency operation again. Durametric gave a timeout error, the problem seems to be the clam-shell lid. Removed the motor and turned the mechanism manually it moves smoothly. Removed the lid motor by connecting it directly to the AC battery it's humming but the gear seems to turn hesitantly. So I took the motor apart and I found out that the plastic gear got chewed on one area (see attached pictures) where the worm gear rotating. I tried to rebuild the gear teeth by using JB Weld (and all kinds of epoxies brands and types), it's always working for a while and then same thing at the same area got chewed again. I guess it's not strong enough to hold the metal turning screw. My question now is, do I need to bite the bullet and get a new motor or do you guys have any recommendation if I can get this gear fix or custom made obviously within reasonable price (scratch that I just check with a CNC machine company it will cost roughly $300-$400). The price of a new motor is around 600 dollars at Sunset Porsche, a used one at eBay maybe around 300 - 400 dollars with the whole mechanism (which I don't need). Any suggestion is appreciate it. -Andre
  4. I checked my '09 Cabs's drains at the end of summer and they appeared to drain fine down behind the wheels with good flow. However, now the rain is here, I'm getting water in the driver's side rear footwell (below the carpet) causing the alarm/electrics to go off. I've moped up the water and I checked the drains again between the rains but they still seem to drain well. I've checked the slot style drains from around the end of the top as well as the main drain towards the center of the car in a drainage dip. Does anyone have any idea on where the water may be coming in from or perhaps other drains I've missed?
  5. 2003 996 cabriolet. I was putting my top up yesterday and I heard a strange noise as it was finishing putting up the windows. The sound was almost like a popping sound (not very loud). I went to open the door (drivers side) and the window did not drop. I tried the outside handle and the inside handle and no drop. The window goes up and down fine. I have done a search and read several great write ups on micro switches and regulators, I am still a little stumped on this one. Is it a micro switch issue or possibly an issue with the top controller. I did not have a chance to investigate or troubleshoot because I had to go on a work trip. Anyone else have a similar issue? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
  6. Ive read a ton of articles on this and other forums but cant seem to find a specific model that is currently on sale and that will for sure fit the 997.2 convertible. I have a 2 year old and we are working on baby #2 so I need two seats, one for newborn and one for toddlers. Booster seats will not help me yet. Can anyone help? Thanks. : )
  7. I need to get my rear window stitched on my 2000 cab. Looking for a referral in San Jose, CA / Bay Area. Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance
  8. I have a 2004 Targa with the Bose upgrade. When I bought the car, one of the previous owners had replaced the headunit, removed the Bose amp, and had not reconnected the passenger footwell sub. I'm not a huge music listener in the car, so I'd like to remove the Bose subwoofer to get some more legroom back on the passenger side. However, I can't seem to find a carpeted trim piece to cover the hole that's left by the subwoofer. Does anyone know where I can find that, or have a part number? Thanks!
  9. I just had a lower mileage engine installed. Everything seems to be great except the mechanic said when he got in to crank it one the top lowered without him pushing the dash button. One time, couldn't get it to do it again, and I got it down and back up as normal. Well today I heard a noise in the garage with the key out the top completely lowered itself. I put it back up. Any ideas? Thanks
  10. I have a 2006 C2S Cabriolet. The passenger side of the top doesn't come up as fast as the driver side. I have to manually assist it as it closes or opens, pulling or pushing until gravity takes over. If I don't manually assist it, the " not in limit position" light comes on and the top won't close or open. I had it inspected at a Porsche dealer. The diagnostic did not show any error codes according to them. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago. It has 39k miles on it. Of course it worked when I bought it from previous owner. HELP! anything simple I can do?
  11. **** PLEASE IGNORE -- Answered my own question **** Couple of questions regarding the wind stop storage bag... I bought a wind stop from SunCoast and it didn't come with what I recognized as a usable storage bag for the wind stop. It came with something that looked like it should fit over a spare tire, and may or may not be able to contain the wind stop. But looking on my rear deck lid, I noticed a canvas piece of kit that I then reached in and took out. Lo and behold, it's a wind stop carrying bag (albeit, a bit faded). It's got these two metal snaps on it, too, which I can't figure out. So, I've got a couple of questions: Where do you store your wind stop/bag when you are not using the wind stop? Do you store in the rear deck lid or do you use the precious space in the front boot? If you use the rear, is it safe there with the cabrio mechanism? It looks like the wind stop cover has been back there for a couple of years with the PO. What do the metal snaps on the cover snap to? (pictures attached). The snaps are on the lower left of the canvas bag. Sorry for ****ty iPhone quality. Thanks! -Mike
  12. Looking for some advice...entering the "cold" season here in northern california and so I've been driving with the convertible top up a bit more and I've noticed that at highway speeds I'm hearing what I'd call "creaking" (which is different of course from "squeaking" or "rattling") coming from the convertible / cabriolet top. If I put my right hand palm up on the inside of the roof and press, the creaking will be silenced. Pushing in other areas has no effect. Pushing on the right spot feels like there is probably a roof support right under my palm. As I've mentioned, its a problem only encountered at highway speeds. Any ideas? Something I need to lube? Cables I need to tighten? Any advice greatly appreciated!
  13. I am buying a 996 Cab. The clamshell opens and you can hear a motor whirring but the top will not move. I can open/close the top manually. Anyone have an idea as to what that may be?
  14. Occasionally the "timing" or "alignment" of my convertible top gets off and it locks up. Ussually, this occurs just short of engaging with the locking motors in the windshield frame. What can I do to correct the problem, short term and longer term? Thanks!
