  1. Some background: I just finished installing a Kenwood Head Unit and used the Kit210/ M.O.S.T HUR 997 module. The installation is not for the faint of heart. I have installed many radios and worked on mods to my previous Porsche's. This took some serious investigation and decoding to see what wires need to be attached to wires in the harnesses. To some extent I was fortunate that the previous owner had an after market unit installed, but had remove nearly everything. Everything works: Backup camera Navigation ( I located the GPS antenna way back under the plastic cowling between the Battery and Cabin Filter) Radio Phone (tried to locate the mic in the location of the factory mic, but proved to be too difficult for now. Located to left of the radio bezel by removing the small piece of dash and positioning the clip under that. Volume and Chanel rotary dials on the Steering wheel multi use buttons. Now the problems left over: The Phone buttons don't seem to do anything. I need to use the buttons on the radio when placing/receiving calls. This is not major but would like everything to work as well as if a factory head unit was install. Again, it seems that the steering wheel switches are recognized, but not the phone buttons. Is this maybe something that needs to be programmed in? Thanks,
  2. I have been lurking since I bought my 2009 Cayman base with PDK a few months ago and have already learned a lot from you guys. I am not new to cars, but am new to Porsche. I am coming from the American muscle and 4x4 world (my main addiciton is 66-77 Ford Broncos) and have a lot to learn about Porsche in general. I have searched and searched and have not been able to find anything regarding the issue I am having so I hoped some of the experienced 987.2 owners could help. Everything has been great with the car since I purchased it and I really enjoy the car. Over the past few days I noticed the transmission acting odd at low speed. In the morning I let the car warm up for around 5 minutes while I make my coffee and then I slowly drive out of my neighborhood. Just recently I noticed that at low speed and low rpm the throttle will blip (rpms jump 100-300 rpm as it changes gears) when upshifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Once I pull out of the neighborhood and accelerate with a little heavier throttle there are no issues. This only occurs at very low speed and low rpm. The car shifts as it should once I give it a little more throttle. I know the PDK blips the throttle on downshift, but I cannot find anything about a blip on upshift. Hopefully this is normal and I am just being paranoid, as I am prone to be, but any input from longtime PDK drivers would be very greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your help so far and hopefully you can give me some advice on what I am currently experiencing.
  3. Several people have told me that the 996 Dual Sender Oil Pressure Switch/Sensor will directly replace the 987-1 Oil Pressure Switch. Can you please confirm this and provide the part number. I would guess it is 996-606-203-03 but, I would like to be sure. Additionally, if I am running an AIM dash, should I run the pressure lead to the switch input on the ECU and get the pressure data from the CAN bus or, just leave the switch lead attached and run the pressure lead straight to an analog I/O on the AIM dash. Thanks, Tim
  4. Hey everyone, i own a 2010 porsche Boxter 2.9L with the PDK transmission.. yesterday after leaving the car for a 4 days i started it and went for a drive.. when i turned it on again, i got a warning message “emergency transmission run” and the car became very jerky through gearshifts and wouldnt accelerate properly.. after turning it on and off the message went away and it drove just fine but then it kept re-appearing mid drives and becomes very jerky and clunky...ive noticed since i had the car that the gearbox was sometimes clunky or would make a noise when changing gear but the dealership said that was fine and normal since its a PDK, the car is at 59,000km so its time for a transmission fluid change... could this be a low voltage problem, or transmission fluid? The reverse gear works just fine.. has this happened to any other owners?
  5. Hi everyone, this is my first post. Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted a Porsche. 911 is out of my price range and although I think Boxster's are cool, I've never been a convertible guy. So, that leaves the Cayman. I love the look of it and I test drove one yesterday and had a blast driving it. However, I'm very concerned about the IMS / oil starvation issues I've been reading about. The car has 48K miles on it and is listed at $23,999 (the price is somewhat negotiable). It would be my primary vehicle (I also have an 84 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60). However, I work from home mostly and only make one trip to my office weekly which is a round trip of about 90 miles. So, I'll be putting around 6K miles per year on the car. I read somewhere that the odds of actually having a failure in a 2006-2008 was something like 1 in 100, but I've read conflicting information on that. I can afford the payments and to pay more for maintenance than I have on my other cars in the past (Ford, Nissan, VW, etc.), but a total engine failure would be devastating and I don't have that kind of cash lying around (without dipping into retirement savings or something crazy like that). So, does anyone know the real likelihood of failure and if there is anyway to easily determine if the DOF solution has already been installed? Also, anyone have an estimate on what it would cost to install the DOF? There also doesn't seem to be any clear info on rebuilt engines out there. I just see a wide range of estimates from $10K - $20K. 10K might not be TOO bad, but 20K...yikes... If I can't feel confident in the 2007, I guess I'll just have to wait and maybe find a good deal on a 2009+. Thanks :)
  6. I posted recently about a 2007 Cayman I was looking at but I decided not to go for it after two different local shops warned against buying a 987.1 (I know there is plenty of debate over that in other posts). Regardless, I have decided to start looking at 2009+ Caymans. I've found a couple of cars that are basically the same price. One of them has 48K miles. The other has 68K miles but it is Certified Pre-owned which means it will effectively have a 2yr / 32K mi warranty (odometer + 50K, but they cap it at 100K). 68K is definitely more miles than I was initially looking for, but the CPO is certainly appealing. I will be using this car as my "daily driver". However, I don't drive a car every day. I make a few small trips here and there during the week to the store or restaurant and then once per week I drive about 100 miles round trip for work. So, at this point, I'm probably putting about 6k-7k miles per year on my car. So, I would basically get 2 years of warranty because there's no way I'll put 32K mi on the car in 2 years. Anyone have an opinion on this?
  7. Hello everyone, first of all, i would like to excuse my bad english, im from germany. My name is Dominic and i drive a Cayman S. I really love this car, but i hate the seats. I bought a pairs of "König" seats and im about to install them this weekend. The only problem is, no Dealer does the coding to dissable to dissable the thorax Airbags. So i need to add some resistors on the cables. Can somebody tell me where i have to wire the resistors? I found this topic with the same question, but no answer: Thank you very much in advance!!
  8. I just picked up my new/used 2006 Cayman S two days ago. I filled it up with gas today (did two days ago as well) and about 7-10 miles later the Check Engine Light came on. Shortly after that the Central Warning Light (red exclamation mark next to the CEL light) came on, and the info message said "Check Engine". Guess that was obvious. I went to two AutoZone stores and they hooked up the CS to their OBD2 (pardon me, but I am new to Porsche and all this stuff) scanner. Both times they thought the device registered something, but when they connected the device to their computer in the store there were No Fault Codes found. I drove by the Porsche dealer to see if they could find a code, but being Christmas eve they were already closed. The car had a pre-purchase inspection done at a Porsche dealer, and they did find and repair a fault code, having to do with some charcoal gas vent / canister (evap). That was repaired and the car checked out with no codes. Can anybody comment on this? Would it be possible to trigger the CEL without the car registering and storing a code? Do the AutoZone OBD2 scanners (Innova was the brand) work on a Porsche (I heard there are primary and extended codes (car specific))? Could the car be issuing a special Porsche code that is not even able to be recorded by the OBD2 scanner? I appreciate any help and suggestions you can provide. So far my Christmas present is not feeling like a good one. Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone this is my first post, please be gentle:) And here I am desperate after about a days worth of trying to figure out the problem Cayman 2007. Basically the story is: The car battery was empty, to the point it did not start. I called the dealer, they picked up the car and they changed the battery. When i got the car back, when the passenger door opens the door goes down 10cm but when the door is closed it doesnt go up again. I called the dealer they put the car on the diagnostic and they told me that the problem is probably a vary small part on the locking mechanism of the door but they can only change the whole mechanism, quote $600. I said thank you and left. I assumed its the door latch microswith. So i took the door appart, check the microswitch on the door latch, it was working, I gave it a good clean anyway and i put it back, problem pressist. I though maybe its a problem with the connection inside the latch? Anyone knows the pinout of the latch so I can check without dissasembling it? Maybe its the main door connector? Anyone knows the pinout there? Anyone has any other ideas in general? Thank you from the lovely island of Cyprus, Yiangos
  10. Hey all, looking for install directions for a short shifter for an 06 Cayman. Also anyone recommend either Schnell or B&M? Many thanks
  11. Hello all,I want to do a stealth SQ install in my Cayman. I already own 2 amps from my old car (RF Power 50.2 and RF Power 250.2, both in Chrome) but don't have to use them. The car currently has PCM and Sound Package plus, so 3 way fronts, a 3" centre channel in the dash and 4" midrange rears - no subwoofer.PCM has 4 speaker level outputs, so these need to go into a processor (Alpine PXA-H800, Audison BitOne or RF 360.3?) so that the output can go to amps (I'm thinking JL Audio HD900.5 and HD600.4; the former running active tweets and mids in the front plus subwoofer, the latter bridged to run midbass in the door). I really would like to keep the PCM if possible, though there may be justification to replace it if the output via a processor is going to be significantly inferior to a modern HU with digital output.Speakers - I'm considering either Morel Elate Limited Edition, Morel Elate 903, Dynaudio Esotec System 362 for 3-way fronts, and the JL Audio stealthbox in the rear.Questions:1. Which 3-ways are best in this car?2. Are JL Audio HD amps good enough to get the best from high end 3 ways?3. Should I be going passive instead, by losing the HD600.4 and simply bridging the HD900.5 to run 150W to each front side?4. Which is the best processor for SQ?5. Will an SQ'd PCM be significantly inferior to a high end Pioneer/Alpine double-DIN navigation unit?6. Is this design flawed in any way? Can it be designed better? Thanks,C.
  12. Hello, I am new to this forum and felt it might be good to get some answers that aren't dealer tainted. Have been a previous 911 owner (87 Cab) and the bug has bitten me again and now looking at the Cayman or Cayman S. My key concerns are: durability as a daily driver, comfort on long trips (I'm 6'1") and overall ownership expectations. Can you burn regular 87 octane or does it require higher? Annual maintenance cost etc. Still on the fence over Cayman S vs Cayman...but leaning toward S. Most likely a 2006/07 vintage. Any guidance and recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you
