  1. Hi. The title is probably self explanatory. If I get a used diff, is it just plain risky, or can it be understood whether the thing is one of the good ones or not before I replace my noisy one with it? Much thanks for any insight.
  2. I'm having a hard time trig to figure out what rear differential fluid my 2013 CTT takes. It has the PTV electronic rear end on it and from what I understand it has carbon fiber discs in it and requires a specific fluid. Anyone have any sources that provide a brand/part number?
  3. Can anyone help me identify a fluid leak? While changing oil on my '04 Cayenne S, I noticed a small leak coming from the drain (weep) hole of what I would normally call the bell housing which I assume is part of the transmission housing. There are 3 small holes in a row which appear to be drain holes. The fluid has the consistency of 90 weight oil. It is amber in color. It's not motor oil or transmission fluid (which I think is colored Red). Thanks!
  4. During and undercarriage investigation of my '04 CTT, I came across what I suspect to be the front differential vent hose just dangling about the drive shaft. I can see the metal fastening clip attached to the hose but am unable to see where it should be attached. I inquired of the mech who performed the reassembly and install of the engine and he declared he didn't know where it went? Does anyone have knowledge to the whereabouts of the securing point for the hose/clip? I will look through the portions of the PET that I have but was hoping someone here has some knowledge on this. TIA
  5. I've got a 98 Boxster completely stock. I'm trying to decide if I put in a limited slip differential or upgrade to the M030 suspension first. I'm pretty much looking for improvement in autocross. Any thoughts?
  6. Just today, I noticed a strange noise coming from the front of my C4S. It sounded a little like a slipping belt - sort of a high pitched squealing. It only happnes under very specific circumstances, and it's intermittent. I've been able to replicate it a few times, but not consistently. The noise happens when I'm coasting down hill, in gear. I've only heard it in 3rd gear and 4th gear at this point. Giving the car gas when the noise is heard makes it stop entirely. I'm beginning to wonder if the viscous coupling is "slipping", or if perhaps there's some other issue with the front differential. I had my differential fluid changed at the 90,000 mile service a few years ago, but it hasn't had any service or issues other than that. Any thoughts? Does this sound like a differential or viscous coupling issue? I can already see dollar signs floating in front of my face... I'll be taking the car to my mechanic to have it checked out, but I'd love to hear some opinions or hear about similar experiences and solutions. Thanks,
  7. Hi, I've been lurking for a while with my 2004 CTT. I love the car and haven't really had many issues other than the normal coolant pipes. I do all my own work, and this is my dail driver, so the work is much more simple than my other cars. I have two, hopefully, basic questions: 1. the Diff "Locks"...are those viscous diffs or truely locking? 2. Because Burmah oil is hard to come by in the states, is there a fluid that is recommended other than the porsche part? i know redline has a gl5 rated fluid, but if there are clutchpacks in the lockers....i would hate to decrease the locking ability of the discs by using a full synthetic oil. I've seen people using M1, Redline MT-90 all the way to 75w-90 GL5, AMSOIL... My theory is if the lockers are truely mechanical, then i won't be as worried with a change in gear oil....but if they do rely on friction discs.....i'll stick with the OEM. TIA
