  1. I checked my '09 Cabs's drains at the end of summer and they appeared to drain fine down behind the wheels with good flow. However, now the rain is here, I'm getting water in the driver's side rear footwell (below the carpet) causing the alarm/electrics to go off. I've moped up the water and I checked the drains again between the rains but they still seem to drain well. I've checked the slot style drains from around the end of the top as well as the main drain towards the center of the car in a drainage dip. Does anyone have any idea on where the water may be coming in from or perhaps other drains I've missed?
  2. Dear all: I have water on the passenger (right) side floor board of my 2001 996 base coupe. Here are the signs and symptoms, and hopefully relevant info: the water seems to drip from the AC vent. The car hasn't been out in the rain or through a car wash since I dried it out thoroughly. Drove it for about an hour yesterday with the AC on, and the passenger side is soaked. When parked, a healthy amount of condensate came out by the left rear wheel (that's the driver's side, opposite the side where the floorboard is wet), bit nowhere else. Based on the great info on this site, I checked all four drains under the front cowl. All four were unobstructed and dry as a bone, but there a couple of small leaves in two of them so I cleaned them out. My car has the little clear window over the VIN and the slotted drain grommets, so it looks like the TSB has been applied. I also removed the cover panel on inside of the passenger side rear wheel well. I couldn't positively ID a drain. The area was relatively clean - a little dusty, but no discernible mud, etc. Also very dry. I took out both rear speakers and felt around from the inside of the car all the way down to the bottom of the wheel wells. I suppose that tip only works on the cabriolet...it was clean and dry inside both and there was no drain line . I ran the car with cowl under the hood/bonnet off and the AC on. The AC lines get cold and water condenses on them (both under the bonnet and running along underneath the car on the passenger side), but it doesn't leak or drip excessively. While it was running, I looked underneath, and saw water dripping from the plastic skid panels under the center of the car up forward. It didn't do that yesterday. I can't imagine that pulling out a couple of dry leaves from the drains under the bonnet made a difference...could it have? I'm pretty sure that the issue is condensation from the AC system, since it's getting wet from no other source (and it's clear water, not coolant). It would help me to know: where is AC condensation water SUPPOSED to come out under the car when everything's working properly - front, rear, both? Is there a drain hose from the AC condenser that I can access somewhere up front other than as mentioned? I apologize if this is covered clearly somewhere else. I'm just kinda flummoxed...what am I missing? Thanks very much for any guidance (even a link to some obvious other posting I should have found already)!
  3. I pushed my front water drain down beneath the sheet metal. It's the drain tube that's to the right of the battery compartment in the front trunk. Does anyone one know how to access the bottom of the drain tube that way I can re-seat the rubber grommet back in place. Also what damage will happen to my car if this tube is not re-sat back into place?
  4. Had a puddle when warm, from the drivers side front (coolant leak as discoloured the drive). Common problem so took the wheel off with it facing as far right as possible, then, If I recall, 7 screws to remove the plastic cover of the inner wheel arch (torxs) Bottom of the 2 pipes were the problem on mine The 2 ends of the pipe means you will need a big bucket to catch all the fluid, There will be a something like a 3mm wire cir-clip that retains the hose, one at each end, make sure it is well clear or take it off all together, its easy to get back on. then just pull the hose off and get wet.(image) The leaking end had been bodged before so was I had to wiggle for a while, don't forget the car is on jacks so don't pull too hard. then release the other end, I must have releases a good 3 litres of coolant out of the car. The new hose (image) is apparently silicone based, and I read that you are not to use silicone lubricant on silicon hoses? So you will have to decide on what to put on the hose to aid insertion. Clean everything as much as you can, then push the new hose and put back the clips on both ends (test pull to see if well located). With the Gen2 (might be cayman and boxster the coolant refill should be done with a full drain as per other tutorials, but to refill and bleed you have to remove the engine cover and find the bleed valve as per image. not in the boot as gen1( as I understand) Check for leaks

Hi all I started another post similar where I thought the Horn was the culprit of my battery drain, but it was actually the Alternator causing me a drain, so thought I would summarise the issue on a new post so that this might help other 996 owners and save them a lot of money and time! This is the original post and is detailed, so take a look at this afterwards: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/48867-2000-porsche-996-battery-drains-the-alarm-horn-is-a-constant-3v-and-hums/page-3 ​ Issue/Fault: So my 2000 Carrera Cabriolet was draining the battery in around 6 days, I was showing around 390ma of draw with the car locked and powered down, it should be upto 50ma, so I'm draining a Lot more! The drain was coming from the Alternators thin Blue wire, the one that goes to the regulator on the back of it. The wire was showing 3.7v Constantly with the Iginition off/car locked and 10.8v with the Key On/car started. I spent money on x2 Diagnostics, new ignition, I also removed all fuses, relays, Speedo Cluster, Blubs, ABS unit, PSM/ASR etc (All are linked to this Blue wire), but nothing helped, the fault seems to be in the middle of the Loom somewhere. FIX: I could not trace the fault to this 3.7v and I'm fed up of charging the battery and working on the car--- so I removed the rear passenger door panel, carpet and plastic cill tunnel to gain access to Connector "x2/3 black", the blue wire runs through this on Pin5. I unplugged this connector, I then Cut the blue wire as it went into the x2/3, I lenghtned these wires by 12". I then removed some of the sheathing on Pin 4 which is Black/Brown, I then soldered 12" of thin wire onto this, insulated all of these wires of course as cabled tied then neatly back up. I then installed a relay onto these 3 wires, and added a 4th Earth wire which I secured behind the door panel to bare metal. I also added a 5Amp fuse onto the relays power wire (the wire coming of the Black/Brown) . I then mounted this relay behind the door panel, well below the speaker (so the speakers magnet does not interfere with the relay). I can then remove the speaker and access the relay Easily, should I need to in the future. So Finally after months of research on the net, money spent and loads of evenings in the car, Its now Fixed! I did have 390ma Drain, now its 30ma which is very low and awesome!! I don't think I will need to charge the car again as It should last ages and ages unused in the garage and start easily! I would have loved to have found the actual Real fault but without stripping the dash off and hunting for these wires in this area, then I've done everything possible that I can access. I'm just pleased to not need to charge the car and now I can actually Chill and just enjoy owning, driving and polishing my 996! Hope this info helps.
  6. I am a new owner of a 2000 996 C2 cab with 75k miles. I started to change the rear brake pads today and saw that the fount side of the right rear wheel housing was covered in what appears to be oil. I removed the splashguard and found a vent or drain that had fluid draining out of it. I searched the forums and my manual but cannot find what this vent is for. I suspect if is for the convertible top housing above. Can anyone tell me what this vent is for and if the fluid is likely hydraulic fluid from the top mechanism or an engine oil leak? I am fairly certain it is not coolant. I have enclosed two pictures. The splashguard has been removed as well as the rubber baffle over the vent. Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer a suggestion. This is my first post on a forum of any kind so if I am not doing something right pleas let me know.
