  1. When I was working on transmission oil/filter change, I noticed exhaust leaks at various joints on both exhausts. Is there a recommended way to fix them? Should I replace the clamps and seals (any particular sealing I should get) at each joint, or should I go with something like muffler weld and or tiger patch? Thanks Danish
  2. To all 996 owners with PSE, especially those with a 4S. I think my 996 C4S exhaust behaves oddly. I think it's a fault but you might tell me it's normal behaviour. The problem is that I've always had this 'fault' on my car so I don't know if it's a fault or intentional behaviour. If you have the same car, perhaps you can shed some light on this. When I start it, it's noisy and sounds great. It quiets down as it runs for the first 5 mins. I have the PSE system and when I press the button you can audibly hear the exhaust note change - quieter when on and louder when off. Default is off so loud. Here's the rub. Up to around 1500rpm it's got a good noise then it fades out to the point where it's so quiet it's like driving my partners Yaris. If I keep accelerating, when I get to around 3500rpm the exhaust suddenly gets loud again. I mean it's immediate - like someones flipping a switched marked loud. It sounds great. It happens in 2nd and 3rd gears most noticeably and the PSE is in the 'off' position. If I have the PSE button on, then it's just quiet all the time and that works fine. So why the silent spot? I did read somewhere that German market cars might have had a system that turns on and off the PSE at certain speeds to prevent people driving round residential streets with a loud exhaust but information is thin and I don't think I was ever on UK cars. I have also had a small go at checking vacuum pressure at idle on both sides of the Y piece in the engine bay but both hold good pressure. One side has only a microscopic leak but not enough to cause this kind of issue.
  3. Hi all, This will be my first post, thanks for a great forum ! I've recently purchased a exhaust system from Design911 in the UK which has the valvetronic function on. This is said to replicate the PSE which my car does not have factory installed. Wired it up and put the vacuum hoses, tested the system and it works fine. Over to the issue for my car: When starting up the car, the neutral positon of the valves is open, which means a lot of noice from the exhaust. When switching this by the solenoid, sending vacuum into the system and the valves closes. This means less sound. But when the valves is closed the car wont run properly at the RPM range of 5500-7000 RPM's there is also fault codes for misfire on cylinder 2. The strange thing is that this works perfectly when the valves is open. I've tried two differnet vacuum sources, into the ressonator and also for the left hand side cooling system vacuum solenoids. Without any differnce. I tried to run vacuum directly to the vacuum actuators on the exhaust without any difference and also tried manually applying vacuum and using a one way check valve to keep the vacuum while not connected to the cars vacuum line. No vacuum leaks, no fault codes when driving with the valves open. Same result every time. So have anyone had some similar issues to their car ? Thanks in advance for any help !
  4. Hello there, this is my first post here and I’m writing because of problem with my boxster. Today in the morning I’ve started my 2002 boxster and noticed strange sounds from the engine/ rear side of the car It’s a metallic, grinding sound like a loose piece of metal or something like that Sound disappears when you press gas and comes back once you loose the pedal, I don’t know if it changes while engine is warm Also, check engine light shown up yesterday, when I connected my BT OBD2 there was no error code. I came with that to workshop also, and they said it’s a catalyst efficiency error. I’ve had that error code a while ago, I’ve replaced mass air flow meter and check engine light disappeared. I think it might be a problem with maf again because I bought not the cheaper, not the original one, but why are there these strange sounds? I’m worried about this. Could it be catalyst this time? Or again should I replace maf? This time I’ll buy original one. here are two Videos I made Also I’m sorry if you can’t understand something, my english is not perfect. Thank you for all replies, I hope we will solve that problem together
  5. I'm new to using a blog so bear with me. I have a 2017 911 4s cab with the standard exhaust. If I push the sport button it gets louder. on my corvette ZR1 I added a switch to open the butterfly valves for full exhaust and wondering if that can be done with this car? or other ideas on how to get a little more sound? Thanks
  6. Hi all I’ve just found this forum tonight and thought I’d ask more experienced users what they are getting power wise after a remap, I’m taking my 08 CTT into Zensport tomorrow morning for a remap and I’m wondering what kind of power I should be expecting with the following mods I’ve had done last week prior to the remap. HAYWARD AND SCOTT EXHAUST WITH X PIPE, REAR BOXES, SECONDARY CAT DELETE, TURBO S STAINLESS STEEL TIPS. IPD PLENUM K&N PANEL FILTERS AGENCY POWER RECIRC VALVES Many thanks, Andy
  7. Have 03 C4S 55K mi. Both Cats going bad. getting CEL after every 50 to 75 mi. First from bank 1 and now bank 2. Have basic Torque App software to reset. Pain in Butt. I track car about 3 times a year. No car mods. Run for fun. Looking to boost HP via new performance exhaust system. Thinking Headers and Sport CATs from Fabspeed. Factory mufflers are original, seem fine and would like to reuse. Along with perhaps new clamps, gaskets and a few new bolts, does anyone have advise on this?
  8. Hi guys, first post on this site and i'll appologize off the bat if this is a subject that's been talked about extensively. I tried to search but couldn't really find an exact answer. So this is my first 911. It's a '12 991 S without sport chrono and without PSE. Love the car and frankly when I get on it a bit the sound is gorgeous. . .BUT, where are the burbles?? the little snaps and crackles when I let off the throttle or on decelerations?? That is a trait in this car that I find a must! I like a loud exhaust, i love a dirty sounding angry snarling exhaust, but those burbles and snorts and cracks are huge. . .so my question is how do i get them? replace the center muffler? the sides? both? straight pipe the sides or x pipe the center? or is there something about a car without sport chrono that won't be as burbly?? thanks so much guys and i'm SUPER excited to get my car and start enjoying it! Mike
  9. I installed a complete Used FVD Brombacher exhaust this weekend. Headers, Cats, Mufflers, 02 Sensors. When installing the FVD exhaust I noticed that the post catalytic O2 sensors were on opposite sides of the stock headers. (2001 C2 Manual) The leads were not long enough to go to the opposite side connectors. So I plugged them into the sockets closest to them. I was able to drive for about 30 miles until the CEL light came on. I noticed the idle was a little off, would fluctuate between the 760 - 860 range I think . Car drove fine. When I got back home I checked the codes.P01030 O2 Sensor Curcuit Bank 1P1133P1130 Oxygen SensingP1126 Oxygen SensingP0300 Random Misifre DetectedP0306 Misfire Cyl 6P0304 Mis Cyl 4P0305 Mis Cyl 502 Sensor Output 0.0v Bank 1 Sensor 1 I hope you enjoyed my drawings. Would this be due to the post cat O2 sensors be plugged into the opposite connectors? Plugs and tubes were replaced about 6K ago, all the coils looked fine. The 02 sensors came on the exhaust. Could this just be a bad O2 sensor? Would it be advisable to get the DME re tuned for the new exhaust?'Thanks!
  10. I've recently started changing exhaust components to obtain the exhaust note that makes me smile on my long drives to work. First I purchased a used Instant-G muffler and C pipes from someone who had a 3.6l conversion. In fact, I think this exhaust system was made for the 3.6 conversion as a kit. It sounds very nice and 2.25 inch C pipes and inlets -- low tone sonics. I had a drone at 3K that was quite loud, but a lower tone, still good sound -- but made me tired on long drives. I decided to install 2 inch down pipes from the stock headers to the 2.25 inch C pipes. The drone is completely gone. In fact, I miss any sound without throttle. Albeit, it's a nice departure from the drone sound, it would be nice to have some sound when I let off the throttle. When on the throttle it sounds very nice!! And surprisingly, the car feels much less strained when accelerating. It's like a different car, like it can breath now. Lots more power even at lower RPM, and throughout the power band. I really like the way it easily accelerates at any speed. So, a few questions: 1. How can gain back some of the lost sound on deceleration? -- Not a top priority, but if changing something means not having the power the way it is now -- then not worth it. 2. Since the system is now essentially restriction free except for the minimally baffled muffler -- is this in any way harmful to the engine? It feels like the motor runs easier with less strain. 3. I tied the secondary O2 sensors up and out of the way. No CEL, but is this some how harming the ECU's attempt at a stoichiometric O2/Fuel mixture. I'm assuming that no default program is triggered by the lack of proper signal these are now sending to the ECU. 4. What do you think of this setup?
  11. Hi guys, I bought an used full Remus system with Cabon tail pipes. But the quad tips are so messed up. Is there anyways to restore the original coat ? Thanks.
  12. Well so i just noticed something weird. I parked the car after driving it for 15 to 20 mins and left it running while i went to get the mail, and when i come back I noticed that 3 out of the 4 pipes where smoking nicely but one was not quite as strong. I put my hand on the one that was not as strong as the others to make sure smoke was coming out, and notice the small amount of smoke coming out was cool! I then place my hand near the others and the smoke was hot as hell! What should I do, I am sure that is not normal! The car drives awesome, very strong, but i am sure that is not a good sign. The one all the way to the right is the problematic one. i bought a durametric and i will run it and show the results here, but any idea will be appreciated.
  13. Looking for a sound upgrade to my 996. I like a deeper, more guttural sound. Based on videos of each, it seems the Fabspeed is more to my liking. That doesn’t mean the Fister sounds bad—because it doesn’t—I think I just prefer the Fabspeed sound. But, in all honesty, it’s hard to tell from a video. I’ve never heard either in person. I’m wondering who has experience with either one of these (or both) and looking for opinions/reasons why one might be better than the other. While they both produce great sounds, there’s a significant difference in price and benefits. 14. Hi All, I am a new owner of a slightly modified 2003tt and love it. I bought it about 2 months ago and just last month the check engine light came on. I went and bought the durametric entusiast cable (which I read about here - thanks to everyone) and read a p1145. I watched the o2 sensors while the car was running and they seem good (voltage fluctuating and both bank 1 and bank 2 seem to have simular readings.) I did notice the sensors after the cat have spacers. (PPI didn't state that and I didn't know a thing about it until reading forums). Anyway a long story short I was reading the maintenance records of the car and noticed one mentioned a small crack in the aftermarket header (oh yeah techart headers and exhaust and I believe k24 turbos and GIAC flashed) - anyway I looked and in the collector of the bank 1 header it looked like a small black line which I assumed might be the crack. Would a crack in the header cause a P1145? Any other good checks? Car seems to run fine but rich at startup. Lots of power. Any help would be great! Thanks all!
  15. I recently bought the DesignTek Valvetronic exhaust system from Design 911. Unfortunately no installation-instructions were included. I've emailed Design 911 about it, but after 1,5 weeks they haven't made any progress. The only email-address I could find for DesignTek was parts@designtek.eu, but emails bounce. Then again, how hard can it be? :P I've installed the mufflers. They sound great but the default mode is LOUD which isn't always so popular amongst the neighbors. Each muffler has a single vacuum-valve that closes the flap with vacuum present. The kit also included a vacuum reservoir, an electronic valve, a one-way-valve, a box for the idiotic remote control, keyfobs, a length of hose and various fittings, strips and cables. I have the Porsche factory PSE-switch for use with this and hooking up the electronics is easy. The vacuum though, not so much. I found a place to tap into the vacuum-system, on a valve on the back of the intake, left side. Not sure which side of the valve I should hook into though. Then there are the tank, one-way valve and electronic valve. I've tried to apply logic and came up with the following: Vacuum from car || \/ One way valve to prevent the vacuum tank and mufflers to feed vacuum back to the car in low-vacuum situations. || \/ Electronic Valve || \/ Two t-junctions to feed three hoses // // \\ // // \\ Mufflers Tank Electronic valve The valve either allows vacuum to pass through (power applied) or dumps one side of the valve to free air (power not applied). So with power on it allows the car to pull on the valves on the mufflers, and with power off it releases the pressure and the springs in the valve pulls it open. Sound good or did I miss something? I'm at vacuum 101 here..
  16. Hello, 2007 C4S Coupe with Tip here. Bought in 2013 with 26,000 miles, bone stock except the previous owner had replaced the headers and put in Tubi Style exhausts. Well, 2 years and 25,000 miles later, I've had enough of these exhausts: way too noisy for my taste, and attract too much attention (I prefer understated). Would like to put back the stock 997.1 C4S exhaust (as for the headers, don't care one way or another, though suspect I might need the stock headers to fit the rest, but would be happy to let sleeping dogs lie). Will then sell the Tubis. Where can I get used stock exhaust --- reputable second hand source or dismantler? Preferably with some warranty. Of course I can always go to the dealer and drop a new one, but would like to explore the options. The only alternative to stock that I am considering would be some setup that is quieter than stock, but as of now I prefer stock. Thank you for any suggestion.
  17. are the exhausts the same for all cayenne models from 955-957-958? looking at the akrapovic exhaust but are only available for 958..
  18. Hey guys i uploaded a Video on youtube to show you my new Car's Exhaust Sound... the car is stock Let me know what you think guys or if i could do anything to make my car sound louder
  19. So I recently purchased a 2007 Boxster and having just came from a fire-breathing Corvette I was looking for a good exhaust option to replace the anemic factory exhaust. Mine is the 2.7 base without the PSE. After finding that cat-back exhaust systems for the 987 were ridiculously priced I set out to see if I could build something that could give me what I was looking for: fairly loud (the Corvette was very loud), low to no cabin drone, and an aggressive sound. Thus begins my journey. I started by removing the factory exhaust just after the first set of catalytic converters: Then I had some muffler delete pipes fabbed up and simply attached them to factory tip. The exhaust hangers were some that my local shop just had laying around that happened to work perfectly in the factory location - they just utilize the two lower mounting bolts: I drove it this way for about 2 weeks - it sounded mean as hell - but it had awful, mind blowing, forget-about-having-a-conversation drone and between 2-3k rpms under moderate acceleration it also had an equally awful raspy tone. So, I started looking for a solution ... and I found it! These are exhaust inserts (baffles) made by a company called Car Chemistry. Now, without sounding like too much of a sales pitch from these guys, these little things are awesome. I spoke to the owner Ken who was extremely responsive and helpful and I decided to give it a shot since I really had nothing to lose (I'd only put about $100 into the project at this point). Here they are installed: If you look closely you can see them in there. These were installed right where my muffler delete pipe gets welded onto the factory exhaust (again, just after the factory cats). I can honestly say it's cut drone 75% in the cabin - it's no worse than what I can imagine all of the other aftermarket exhausts produce - if not less judging by what I've heard about Borlas (with exception of course of the even-more-ridiculously priced ones). It has completely removed the nasty-raspiness. And it only took about 25% of my out of cabin noise away. The car honestly sounds ferocious now - clean and exotic all the way through the rev band regardless of throttle application. The best part - total spent for entire exhaust including labor: ~$200 I'll be posting up some pictures of the final setup installed on the car, sound clips, and decibel readouts either tonight or tomorrow morning but I can honestly say I'm 100% satisfied in the results. Note that should you try this, it's not for the faint of heart. While it's not as loud as my Corvette or dozes of other cars you see on the street you still get a nice doppler effect as you pass other cars - it definitely turns heads but in a good way. Since I've been running this setup I've had numerous people come up and ask me what I had done to the car - their face when you tell them you're running straight pipes is priceless. As always, comments welcome.
  20. Recently I have been thinking of an exhaust system upgrade for my 2005 997 C2S which I have been driving for quite some time. Can any of you guy help by suggestion on this issue? My 997 is basically standard apart from a set of BBS forged wheels. I am hunting for something that product nicer sound plus hopefully better flow and performance. Any experience and suggestions on where to shop, please reply.
  21. Looking for suggestions. I have an 06 Carrera S Cabriolet that came with AWE headers, cats, and mufflers. It also has a performance air cleaner system with a conical filter in a sealed plastic housing. It sounds awesome on a track day but is too loud leaving the neighborhood @ 6:00 am. I purchased a set of factory mufflers and installed. This changed the sound very little. I want a little performance sound but it sounds like the flying lizards RSR when I get on it going under an overpass. I would rather drive fast and quiet, no need to let the police know you are coming. Is most of the noise coming from the high-flow cats? If so, could they need rebuilding or do I have to go back to OEM? Am I correct in thinking that headers should have very little to do with noise level?
  22. The undercarriage cover is vibrating under acceleration I believe from a leak somewhere in the fabspeed pipes I had installed. Had the pipes tightened and I can't see or feel any visible leaks. The u shaped metal straps that connect the movable section of the panel to the cross member and the plastic around them are worn and loose. Any ideas on part numbers for the plastic undercarriage cover, or thoughts on removing it alltogether, or any other suggestions. Backup plan is to go back to stock pipes see if that fixes it.
  23. Hi all, Being fed up with the droning noise I had between 3 and 4 Krpm I decided to take a look seriously at it I first thought it was coming from the tailpipes, no no, they sound like an empty tin can but no they are not the cause I remembered having read about potential break of the exhaust pipes reinforcement ( since there are 2 of them on the PSE), that reinforcement is a thick piece of metal that kind of wrap up the pipes together, I really looked carefully a couple of time before but could not find any issue, when taking away the tailpipes i could see it better and it was clearly broken at 2 places on the 2 sides, this will require welding which I am planing to do But To be sure that I am not going to weld for nothing I decided to open the crack and put some silicon ( loctite 5940) to kind of dampen the noise The good news is that it works and it lasts, silicon will stand high temperatures and will stand time This is now day and night for me, that droning was just annoying, I am not ashamed to rev in public anymore :D This quickfix could be a solution for those not wanting to weld and it takes maximum 5 minutes I am planning to do the welding and will document it in the DIY section Picture from ebay, the reinforcement can be seen just above the big pipe
  24. My Mechanic noticed the right inner support is broken for my exhaust. I have located 2 part #, Just wondering if any one knows which one will fit a 2003 C4S with PSE? 996 111 128 54 996 111 128 57 Is it a possible DIY? Anywhere else to get it but a P-car dealer? cheapest i found was $220US at Sonnen. What is the consequences of leaving it alone? There are no rattles or anything right now.
  25. I recently installed a set of Fabspeed headers and mufflers on my 3.4 996 seeking an improved exhaust note and perhaps some improved performance. Exhaust sound is a bit more 'aggressive' than I was hoping for and has a slight drone in lower rpm range. Can anyone advise of a muffler that has a slightly less aggressive note? Thanks
