My 1999 911 Carrera started smoking at a streetlight. Very smelly blue smoke was coming from under the engine cover. I pulled over and popped the cover. Blue smoke was coming from somewhere under the engine (not the exhaust). The engine stopped very suddenly. We don't have a local Porsche dealer, but the Subaru dealer owns a bunch of 911s and he has a couple Porsche mechanics. I had it towed there. The C1 fuse ("Engine Electronics") was blown. They replaced it, but as soon as they turned the key, the "cam adjuster wiring harness" (I do not know what this is) began to smoke, and the fuse blew again. They disconnected the cam adjuster wiring harness (I don't know what this means, and neither did the service advisor), and the fuse stayed intact, and they got the car started. They were able to drive it out to the parking lot with no problems. They said I need a new cam adjuster wiring harness (again, no idea what this is), and this would require an engine out repair, which they could not do. They estimated this work at $5,000 to $6,000. Additionally, they did not know how drivable the car was with a disconnected cam adjuster wiring harness. So ... how bad is this? (Service report image attached.)

Hey All, Brand new here and curious to know if anyone can shed some light for some issues i have. I bought a 2005 Boxster this summer, 95000kms and pristine. I had a shop do an oil service on it and they mentioned that the car looked like it had never even seen rain underneath. That said i have some options that arent working and not sure if they would all be connected some how ??? My cruise control does not work ... my heated seats dont work, rear spoiler as well is not working ..... there is no power by the looks of it ... not sure if this would be a fuse that runs all these? From the condition of the car i cant imagine anything serious but i have never owned a Porsche before so i dont want to muck around too much? I have read that if the car has sat for some time with no battery it can unrecognize the features in the car and needs a reboot from the dealer? Any insight on this would be so helpful! Hi, 1999 Porsche 911 (996) Cab - Automatic Trans., Aftermarket Alpine Radio I'm trying to track down a bad alarm switch (I think). Following are the symptoms: 1. Alarm double beep when activating 2. Door Locks and Windows don't work (15 AMP Fuse C3 blown) 3. Battery is fully Charged 4. I disconnected the ignition switch, reconnected the battery and fuse still blows 5. I disconnected the door lock switch and fuse still blows 6. I disconnected the overhead light array and the fuse still blows 7. Car (basically) does not start (fuel pump works). Car will start intermittently, but maybe 10% of the time trying 8. I replaced the ignition relay (old one was working but showing some resistance on the ohm meter) 9. Problem surfaced when I stopped for gas, filled the tank and the car wouldn't start. I realize there's a lock on the gas cover...have not done troubleshooting on it as I think I have to remove the wheel well to get to it. 10. If I had a wiring diagram, it would make things a whole lot easier!!! 11. I connected a scanner...no faults...I got a green light...however, the scanner does not check the alarm codes Any help would be appreciated. Thank you -
I was checking / fixing fuses, pulling them and putting new that kind of stuff and now my windows do not open and the front light are always on! The fuses are ok but I am wondering if by playing around maybe i messed up a relay or something! I tried to fix the fuses to what they should be, in the past the car ( used ) had fuses too big for what the chart called for, so for example i replaced a 30 for a 10 if a 10 was the one needed etc. -
2001 911 Carrera: hood latch has started popping open whenever the door is unlocked (key or fob) and while driving (randomly). I've read the helpful threads on the website and understand it might be a latch adjustment, or perhaps just a good cleaning under the switch. The problem for me is that I'm on a trip and won't be home with access to my garage and tools until I drive a few hundred highway miles. I'd like to disable the latch for the drive home, but in looking at my fuse map, I can't tell which fuse to pull or whether pulling it will disable something critical to the drive. Any thoughts? Hello guys, Ii rented an innova to clear the codes, i just had too many old one, but weirdly a PSM failure i had for a while, but came back :-(. While it was out i was able to press the PSM button off/on and it lit up and off and appeared everything worked. Also the sports button and that struss type button could be turned on / off. Now all are out :-( I wonder where i can find out what is messed up. I went under the drivers seat, i will attach pics soon, and will like to buy those connectors with cables to re-do all that cabling down there, it is ugly. Ideas?

Hey Everyone, So I own a 2004 Cayenne Turbo 2004. I don't drive the it much but today when I went to turn the car on the speedometer didn't power-up. So I turn the car off and restarted and still nothing. Everything else works fine expect for the windshield wipers and speedometer. I'm thinking it's a fuse but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had these issues. Video and pictures coming soon! And tomorrow morning I'm testing the fuses to see if maybe it's loose or blown. -
Finally got my CTT back after a head gasket job, new & rebuilt turbo and timing chain. Stealership went into receivership before work was done but fortunately they allowed mech to finish assembly. Mech informed me all went well but cyl 7 misfire is coming in. Swapped plugs and coils to different cyl to troubleshoot. Still came in as cyl 7 misfire. I see from a quick search this problem could be a simple connection or fuse issue. Unfortunately I'm at work for 5 more days and can't fix CTT for wife. If someone could fast track me to the potential fuse I can try to guide my wife through the hunt -
My 2002 Boxster S keeps blowing the fuse in the rear of the radio. When I replace it the radio works. After turning the radio back on it blows the fuse. I want to replace the radio with a newer model of radio but those also have fuses in the back of them. My car has the Bose system with door speakers. I don't want to replace the radio if the problem with just blow fuses on the new unit. I have searched many threads but not have come across this problem (Fuse on back of radio repeatedly blowing. Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! -
Hi there, I just picked up my new (to me) 1980 911 SC Targa and now I'm encountering my first glitch. Both power windows are not working! the fuse looks good. Could it be the relay? is there anyway of testing the relay or do you just have to buy a new one and try? Any advice is appreciated. Roch.

My navigation system cant seem to acquire sattelites consistently so I want to reboot the PCM system by removing the fuse. I looked on the drivers footwell and saw the fusebox cover and diagram but I cant seem to figure out which fuse needs to be pulled for the PCM. Do any of you know which fuse number it is? Thanks. -
Hi All, I picked up a 2001 996 Carrera Tiptronic Cabriolet (C2, pre facelift, RHD Euro version) a couple of weeks ago and the past week it has started blowing fuse B5 (7.5 amps), which means the folding roof mechanism, electic seats and electric mirrors no longer work. When I replace the fuse, everything works perfectly for a short while (as little as 5 minutes), then the fuse blows again and back to square one. I couldn't pin down what is causing the fuse to blow, but I'm pretty sure it blows whenever the car is started. I also took a look under both seats and as far as I can tell, all of the wiring is ok, i.e. no visible worn wires or shorts. Can anyone help me pin down what may be causing the issue and how to fix it? Many thanks. :) -
Any ideas gents as to why my fuse keeps blowing? I've read somewhere that it may also be linked to my non functioning reversing light too?
