  1. Having an issue with the heater in my 2000 Boxster S. It fogs up the windows when the heater is on. If I turn the AC button on the fog stops but the air temperature is no longer hot or warm even. The moisture coming out seems to have an odd smell to it. It's either old nasty water or perhaps antifreeze. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. 2002 Porsche Boxster S, 6 speed, having a strange problem where the heat only comes out if I put it on hi, then it gets hot as all hell, have to turn the fan down. If I click the down button the first temperature it sets it too is 85. Then its cold. If I lower the temp it gets colder and colder, AC works gets icy cold putting the temp the other way. But no warm air, only hot air, and only when set to HI. Any thoughts on what to look at? Thanks!
  3. I have a 2004 C2 CAB with 120K miles. I am getting bits of black foam material coming from the air vents and from under the dash. Where is this coming from? and how can I fix it? I was told there is a foam "pad" on the air flow box under located under front hood near battery.
  4. Hi everyone. I have a 1998 996 C2 manual RHD. About six months ago the heater/climate control fan started messing about. Mostly it would work, but now and again it refused. This became: usually worked at first start-up but thereafter usually refused, but might spark up at some point during a journey. (it seemed to me that opening a window[because I was fogging up] kick started the fan, but that may be coincidence) The little fan under the passenger air vent was a little noisy and sometimes the heater fan would click a bit like a bicycle wheel with a playing card pegged to it. I changed the ignition switch (read about intermittent electrical maladies being linked to it). No difference. I bought as new (S/H) heater fan and when I took mine out found that the connectors weren't compatible so I had a good look around and put mine back in (I read that when fans stop they stop, they don't work sometimes and others not). I then replaced the little fan under the passenger air vent. Again no difference. Rather than be intermittent the heater fan has stopped all together now. So I have just replaced the heater/climate control panel unit (klimabetaetigung) with one that has exactly the same numbers as mine. It seems to work fine - I can hear lots of things happening when I change vents, switch aircon on and off etc. But still the heater fan won't do what it should. I'm at a loss to think of what else I can replace - I suppose the heater fan could have finally given up the ghost after a slow painful death, so I can replace that. The only other thing that seems wierd is that when I changed the little fan under the passenger air vent the climate control (when it worked) seemed to think the car was around 5 degrees hotter than it really was - put it on max and warm air comes out, but turn it down below 27 degrees (when you know the cab's no hotter than 21) and cool air comes out. I have no trouble with coolant or air con, all checked and serviced by Porsche. Help please.
  5. I'm trying to remove the heater control on my 2002 986, so I can replace the malfunctioning LCD. Since the failure of these older LCDs (the radio has the same issues) is such a common problem, I thought there might be a tutorial here, to review, before I go prying away at the dash. But I haven't been able to find one by doing a simple "Heater Control Removal" search. Can anyone enlighten me with a link or the smoothest removal procedure? Spring is almost here, so I need to fix this for driving! Also looking for the easiest way to replace the partly defective display on the Becker Radio LCD. The 2002 has the security radio with the plug-in display, so at least this is easy to remove. Wondering if anyone has had a successful repair done on their Becker radio display, for less than an arm and a leg? Thanks!
  6. Sending a feeler on the auxiliary water pump. This is the pump that is located behind the left (driver's) side inner fender cover. It pumps water for the heater, basically. I've noticed it getting louder and louder so I'm guessing it is going out. I haven't heard or come up with much on a search. There is a TSB to add foam tape to quiet it down and I did a home-grown version to see if that would help but it didn't. But it really didn't make this much noise before. I was curious if anyone had replaced one before so I can guess how much coolant will need to be removed. Once you get to the pump it's pretty straight forward. Part number appears to be 95557215002.
  7. Hey fellow Boxster people, I have a strange problem with my 2000 Boxster. The climate control is working erratically. When my friend plugged it into a durametric computer it came back with four errors. (hot cold flap fail, blower fail, and two others i don't recall. We checked fuses all of them were good.So basically I get heat all the time not much. Then if I manually turn off the ac button I get heat out of everywhere. Then after a while some doors move and I get full heat. Anyone hear of this and know of a relay somewhere or something that would cause all 4 fails like that? None of the doors work and then they start working sometimes. The car has been sitting for two years. Thanks Seth
