  1. Hi - 2002 996: Scoured the lists but can't find this particular cluster problem anywhere. In short, my salvage cluster shows a list of errors on start up but my original was fine.... Here's the details. My current cluster shows an intermittent airbag failure warning on the led screen followed by the idiot light. It usually occurs at start up, clears at the stalk and the idiot light remains on, but flickers on occasion. My mechanic had ruled out everything he could related to the airbag warnings and since he didn't have a spare cluster, couldn't swap to test for that. I personally purchased a salvage cluster, removed the battery terminals, installed it and it came to life (I'm also having to buy replacement connector housings because mine disintegrated). The problem is the info screen pretty much scrolled through a variety of issues like oil pressure feedback, temp feedback, fuel feedback, etc. The oil pressure gage was also unresponsive. I expected the odometer to be wrong, but didn't expect all the errors. I also started the car and while it ran, it did run rough, sputtered a bit. Do I have a bad salvaged cluster? Does the cluster need to be programmed (beside the odometer)?
  2. Hello, I own a 2,5 liter, Manual transmssion, 97 Boxster. It is a Left wheel drive. recently I have renewed all its interior so the car was taken apart. Problem is : instrument cluster has the following issues: - brake warning ON - car has New break pads - no outside temeperature reading - no lights for the blinker and long beam - they all work, but I can't see it in the cluster. - water temperature needle(indicator) and fuel indicator - Do not budge although I have a full tank and I can hear the vents starting to cool the engine. We ran some diagnosis but we could not find any fault - the tester said at some point that the ECU does not "see" the features but then again, when we ran a Check on each of them, tester confirmed no flaws. Note : the instrument cluster was changed last Year, WORLD flawlessly, so... no reason for it to Not work... Please help.
  3. After 15 years and 150,000 miles, I switched on my 2000 C2 Cab yesterday and saw the clock was not visible. I can find no fuse that is dedicated to the clock ... only various "interment console" fuses that mention several items each. Everything else seems to be working normally. Has anyone had experience with this issue?
  4. Hi all, I've seen older posts on the this topic and only recently have repaired mine on my 03 Cayenne S. The sound indicators in the car began to weaken and then finally stopped altogether. I have driven it almost a year without the sound. I've found a company that actually sells the same speaker for replacement, so no soldering in a new speaker that may or may not fit. It's plug and play. They sell just the speaker, or the full kit (with tools). Worked GREAT. Here's their site: http://www.motolegends.us/instrument-cluster-speaker-repair---complete-kit.html The official Porsche instructions for removing the cluster aren't quite complete - these guys have a guide with photos that walk you though the removal. Seems a bit daunting at first because you have to remove some trim and move some dash pieces out of the way, but if you take your time and don't break anything it was quite easy. Jeff was great - quick email, quick ship, even quick follow up. Good luck all.
  5. I have a 2003 996 C2 Cab. I would like to put white face gauges on it. Stickers do not appeal to me. Opening up the cluster to replace the faces sounds scary (if I go this route I will send it out to be done). I located a used cluster at a dismantler part number 996 641 984 93 it is out of an 02 turbo(6spd). My question is will it work in my car? Do I need PIWIS do reprogram it for my car or can I do this with my durametric? If you converted your car to white faces How did you do it? Did you have any problems? Looking for opinions and options. Thank you in advance. Jim
  6. I have an unusual buzzing noise coming from the instrument cluster area on my 2000 Carrera 4 with white dials. I know there is a TSB from Porsche but it seems like it is for the 997's. I can not tell if it is air related or from an electronic buzzer. The buzzing noise occurs at about 75MPH and above. It is inconsistent, sometimes it will start at 75MPH and other times at 83 or 85 MPH. Based on the inconsistency and the sound, I am thinking it could be wind related, but how is wind making its way to the cluster? It sounds just like an electronic buzzer and I noticed something that looks like a buzzer on the back of the instrument cluster when I changed some bulbs a month ago. Could this be a speed related alarm? It is very annoying and I don't know where to start; I appreciate any advice. If this does not sound familiar to anyone, perhaps I can try and create a video of the problem and post it.
  7. I'm a new owner and seem to be going through the initiation rites (see "Nuisance Alarms"). When I bought the car it had working LED displays under the speedo, tach and fuel/ temp gauges. After disconnecting the battery to stop the alarms and later back feeding through the lighter socket to open the hood, the display under the speedo is blank but the one under the tach works (for speed only) and the clock works. I hope this one is just a matter of me not knowing how to reset due to not having the correct owners manual. Is there a trick or do I have a real problem? Ross
