I need to replace the rear tires on my 2007 C4s and it turns out the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are completely unavailable, with no ETA. Even if one makes allowance for the odd size and likely small demand, that is still pretty shocking. What alternative have you tried and what do you recommend? Car is a daily driver, street driven, I value quiet running (not that our cars are *that* quite, but would rather not add running noise). -
Has anyone changed their rear tires from Michelin PS2 285/30-18 to Super Sports 285/35-18? The SS's are less expensive and better regarded than the PS2s, but they don't come in a 285/30-18 size. I did the math (and browsed previous postings on the subject), and the 35s are about .5" taller in radius. I prefer not to go narrower to 265. Does it make that much of a difference in handling? What about acceleration? My speedometer is currently 10% fast, so this may bring it down, though it's the least of my concerns in all honesty. Thanks. -
I put the Ventus V-12s on the Turbo Cab and was looking at doing the same for the GT3 when the time comes (shod with B'stones) until I heard the too-good-to-be-true spiel on the Pilot Super Sport. Once it was finally available, I saw happily that the 235-40-18 size was available for the fronts but SHOCKED to find out that the 295-30-18 was not only unavailable, but that Michelin has NO INTENTION of making that size. Here is their initial reply and my reply to them which was unreturned... (insert favorite derogatory French comment here...) Owen, we appreciate your request for Michelin Pilot Super Sport in size 295/30ZR18. Unfortunately, we do not have any plans to manufacture this tire at this time. We are constantly looking at market demand and integrating into our development and production processes. Your request will be forwarded to the appropriate Marketing Group for future consideration. my reply: Thank you for the quick reply to my question. I have to admit, though, that I am stunned by the response. That tire size is spec for the 18 x 11 rear wheel on ALL wide-body Porsche 996 cars and some narrow body models like my GT3. A quick review of the production numbers for Turbo models, Carrera 4S models, GT2 and GT3 reveals around 45,000 units from just Porsche requiring the 295/30ZR18 tire. Oddly, Michelin make the 235/35ZR18 PSS which is only applicable to the 8.5 inch wide front wheels for the 996 GT2 and GT3. The totals for those 2 cars is less than 5,000 over the production run. (all the other cars mentioned above have an 8" wide front wheel and use a 225 mm wide front tire.) I fully realize that it is all about the math, but that being said, do Michelin collectively think they'll sell more 295/25ZR21 versions of the Pilot SuperSport? Then again, it can't be all about numbers because these tires aren't hung on high-volume cars like Camrys, Civics and other non-performance cars and trucks. Just food for thought as the company could make a lot of Porsche owners who had been anxiously awaiting this new tire happy, and take a chunk back out of Hankook after the Car and Driver tire test of a couple years ago. I have a 2003 911 cabrio (no PSM) with the Carrera 18" wheels and need a new set of tires. I have decided on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports based on reviews and price. Unfortunately, they do not make stock sized rear tires (285/30 ZR18). My choices for rear tires are: 285/35-18 - (taller) or 265/35-18 - (narrower) My choices for front tires are: 225/40-18 - Original size 235/40-18 - Seen others recommend... not sure why 2 questions: 1) Which rear tire size would you recommend? 2) Why should I change the size of the front tires from the original size? Thanks for you input. -
Time to replace my OEM summer tires (2007 C4S, got 32,300 miles out of them)--any recs for what to replace with? I'm trying to choose between Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Super Sport. The Super Sports have better ratings on tirerack but the PS2s are OEM. The Super sports are about $500 less than the PS2s for all four tires. They are both Y rated with similar load capacity. Anyone try the super sports? I've never been to the track but wouldn't rule this out in the future -
Hi everyone: I had a rear tire blowout on my way in to work today (steel plates in road....grrrr) and since I use my car as a daily driver (2000 C4 996)I need to get it fixed fast. Here is my situation: I have Pirelli PZero's N3's all around which are all worn and due for a change. I would like to swap ALL them out for either: Option1: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 N3 ($$$$) Option 2: Michelin Pilot SuperSport (cheaper, better rating at Tirerack) Option 3: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus So, two questions: 1. How important is that N3 designation? The TSB for approved summer tires seems to make me think that I can't run any rubber other than N2, N3, N4 etc. 2. Anyone like all season tires. I live in the Washington DC area and we get little snow here....a set of dedicated snows seems like overkill. Thanks for your help!!!!
