  1. Sometimes when programming the DME or Alarm control unit with the PST2 or PIWIS, you will get an error of "Test Step Aborted" followed by an error number, such as 3, 21, 25, 71 etc. I have the PST2 manuals, as well as the KTS manuals and the 986 and 996 Dealer manuals, but one thing I have not been able to find in any of them is a list of error codes that follow the "test step is aborted message" Sometimes, I have had the errors when I have put in an incorrect "old immobiiser code", or "old learning code", which kind of make sense.. But I often get the error when programming a control unit (yes I do have 14v onto the control unit and pin 60 powered up on the DME when it is a 5.2.2 DME) Has anyone ever found a list of the error codes and what they mean, or even worked out what they mean? When programming a DME 5.2.2 for example, I can often get to about 90 percent on the progress screen before it bombs out with one of these codes. The unit will still start the car etc if it bombs out, so I don't think it is a bricked DME, but I am just curious about the meaning of the error codes Anyone have any clues? or is my curiosity sending me towards a massive mission of discovery in an unwalked path? lol
  2. Background: My 04 Cayenne S has been at the Porsche dealer for just over a month now. I took it there to have a new key programmed into it. I lost my only working keyfob. I was able to copy the blade of my non-working keyfob at a local locksmith. Well, the next day, I get a call that the computer won't take the new key and that a new sensor, immobilizer and keys were needed. Estimate: $1900. Upset, I felt I had no choice and agreed to it. A week later, I get a call that the parts are coming from Germany and it's be sometime next week. As promised, a week later, the parts made it and were installed. Computer still will not learn the factory new keys. I'm told of numerous emails/calls to Porsche tech support over the course of another week. The last time I called to check around the 18th, I'm told that Porsche has discovered a bug with PIWIS v3. Seems that it cannot program keys into a PIWIS v1 vehicle. Now I'm waiting on Porsche to special deliver a working PIWIS v1 computer. My BS detector is alarming. I would like my Cayenne back, running or not, but I am at a loss on what to do. Questions: Can anyone backup the PIWIS v3 computer story? What are the odds that my original sensor, immobilizer and key are really fine? Should I make them reinstall my old parts and try with the PIWIS v1 computer? The bill should go from around $1900 to $125. Is there anyone at Porsche I need to make aware of the potential service problems at this dealership? A little more on the background. They also claim that they have a non-working PIWIS v1 and that Porsche can remote brick the PIWIS computers when a new unit is issued...?? I'm also told that the Durametric cable and software cannot program keys. Any help or ideas are appreciated.
  3. I posted this on the MacanForum, and it was suggested that I ask the very knowledgeable people over here. I tried a search, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I'm trying to decide between the PIWIS Tester II from http://www.uobd2.net/ and the Durametric. Apparently the Durametric will not reset the electronic parking brake for service, and some have said on other Porsche forums that the PIWIS Tester II can do much more. For those that know or have done research in the past, or have owned one of these, does the Piwis Tester II absolutely require up-dates to work, or just when you want to access other features? Do these Chinese products work at all? I'm hoping it will be able adjust the level reading of the Oil Level display (mine's off, and the dealership says they can't do it), show the fill level when changing oil, as well as allow servicing the rear electronic parking brake. Since uobd2.net is a Chinese company, I'm not sure how trustworthy they are in giving accurate information about their products. Any one here have the PIWIS Tester II or at least tried it? It's about 3 times more expensive than the basic Durametric, but if it can at least reliably do a few more things, I thought it might be worth it. Any other opinions?
  4. Hello All, Few months ago I bought PIWIS from ebay (T30 with piwis v29 installed + KTS 520) and everything seemed to be working fine so far, but I just noticed that it doesn't see all the modules in my Porsche 996. I scanned two cars with it and didn't find convertible top module in either of them, also it gives an error when trying to open ABS/PSM module. I ran a PAG plug test and I got an error saying that system didn't respond. I then did some research online and found out that the cable I had was a chinese clone, not an original .504 bosch cable. The only place where I could find a working cable was here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181421870784?item=181421870784&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr I bought it, but it behaves the same way as the old one - PAG plug test fails, all modules work except for PSM and convertible top. Any ideas what might be an issue? Does anyone have piwis VM, installation files or KTS firmware available? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Patrick
  5. I use Durametric for my Porsche and I am trying to firure out if I can use the same cable on my BMW to chase down a CEL. I tried it last night with no success using CarSoft software for BMW as well as the Durametric. If anyone has any experience getting cross functionality between vehicles using the same cable I would be greatly interested. I don't necessarily need full functionality and visibility of all "hidden" codes, just the basics at this point. Since CEL is on, it should be a code that any generic OBD2 scanner/software can read. I assume the Durametric cable has the same pin connection configuration for the basic code readouts. Since I've already spent the $250+ on the Durametric Enthusiast cable/software it just seems reasonable that I could get some readouts on a BMW using the same stuff without having to drop another $250+ for something that is BMW specific. Thanks!
  6. I`m the owner of a -99 996 Convertible, and I do most of the repair an maintenance myself. To help diagnose I bought a KTS500 that has saved me a lot of money. Now I`m about to program a new remote, but to do so I need the code from IPAS. I asked the local Porsche dealer, but they told me that Porsche would not let me have them because of some theft reason. Anyone else tried to get hold of the codes? I would appreciate any help on how to get them:)
  7. The immobilizer gave out and had my 99 boxster towed to my local indy. His piwis was out for repairs so he waited two weeks before exploring the problem. The first attempt to reset the new immobilizer (alarm unit) and new key heads failed, I was told that the new immobilizer was bad because it would only read the keys and not reset the immobilizer (alarm unit). So, I order another new immobilizer (alarm unit) and the indy installs it and proceeds to tell me that the newest unit reads the keys and resets but won't communicate with the DME. So, today I go by to check on the status and I am told they've had no luck, here are your keys and you need to have you car towed to a dealer. $900 later all Ive got to show is a parts bill of $800 and shop bill of $900 (Oh they did repair a few actuators for the door locks). Is it possible that the mechanic doesn't know how to use the Piwis tool? Help, anyone ever have this problem with the immobilizer and DME?
  8. Got my hands on a fully working PIWIS tester V29 In terms of reading and clear error codes no problems but how to reset the service indicator for an 997? Which menus/ submenus to go to as there are so many options to go to. TIA Rob
