  1. Hi there! My first question on here after lurking for a while. Of all the options possible on the 987 - I'm really happy with my spec, but would very much like to have heated seats in time for winter 2017. The cost of wiring and sourcing parts to do this to factory spec isn't realistic. I have a really good set of sports seats with the optional crest embossed so finding a set as good, with the heating elements, plus all the parts, coding etc. let alone buying a new HVAC module with the stock switches. Meh - too fiddly. So I'm going to go with an aftermarket kit. Haven't decided which kit yet but either way, I want to plan out where I'm going to get power for the elements. I do have a good understanding of auto electronics and am happy with using relays etc. etc. Question: Where will the best place to get hold of a switched 12v supply that can handel the 4-5A current each seat can draw at max (while heating). This will be my first electrical job in a Porsche and I'm frankly struggling given how Porsche puts a specific loom into each car's options spec, rather than a one size fits all approach I'm used to with other cars. Tap into seat power: Although I have manual seats, the back is still motor drive - so first thought was that I could borrow 12v power here. The wiring is also likely up to the job given that seat motors can draw up to around 20A. BUT the supply here is always on - not switched with ignition - so I'd inevitably leave the heaters on and drain the battery. There is a BOSE module under the drivers seat, so an option for power there, but even less detail/info about about specs here, and it dosn't answer the passenger side question so that's out. Center console: Seems to be a source of switched power in here - but concerned it won't be rated/safe for the current draw - given it will only be designed for accessories and phone charging. Also - as above, how do I get under the carpet to run this neatly from the center console to under the seat? Run wire from the Fuse Box: This is what I want to do really, and use a spare slot on the factory box for a centralised fuse location (I have having fuses just.. hanging around) - but I'm looking for a way to run the 12v neatly back to under the seats and leverage the existing cut out in the carpet to run the wire. I'm good with getting behind the carpet around the fuse box.. and getting the wire to the other footwell - but how do I get to the seats in a neat and tidy fashion? Can't find a guide or info on lifting the carpet on a 987. Perhaps I could tuck under the inside door sills? Your help most appreciated! Kind regards, Rob
  2. I was told that i had power seats but i cannot get them to work. Everthing i find it appears that they are actually NOT power seats or they are not the seats that came with the car. Can anyone tell me if they are? I have included a pictures of the seat, maybe i have to buy something to get them to work? I was expecting motors or something underneath but as the picture shows there are none.
  3. I hope one of you knowledgeable guys can help. My 2005 Boxster S 987-1 heated seats don't work. No light on the dashboard switches. The wiring diagram I have says the fuse for the heated seats is fuse F2 80A in fuse holder B (under left side at dash at kick panel). I'm assuming being a UK car it means right side (drivers side) at kick panel. Fuses in that fuse box are in rows A-E, no row F, and the highest rating is 30A So I assume there must be at least one or more fuse/relay boxes somewhere else. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this pesky fuse. Thanks in advance.
  4. Was hoping someone has disassembled a 996 seat completely down and can give me some info. I have a set of seat frames that I need to ship and would like to separate the seat metal frame (butt part) from the back section. I figured out how to remove the long gear that the motor turns to recline the back but that's as far as I can get. It's too expensive to ship these having them in one solid piece. Any insight would be appreciated.
  5. 1999 996 C2, Savannah beige full leather (baseball stich dash), seats are manual except for the seat back, which is power. My drivers seat recently tore along the center stich/seam. I have located a pair of seats in Savannah beige to match, but I am curious about the different design. Pictures 1 and 2 are of my current seat, and the 3rd picture is the seat I am considering replacing them with. The replacement seats are in relatively good shape with almost no wear on the bolsters - $600. Pretty good deal imo. Can anyone tell me if the seat in picture 3 is essentially the same level of trim or higher? Just from a newer model 996? Believe it may be from a MY 2001, but not sure. Also, if these were from a MY2001-04 would I run into any installation issues? Hardware or electrical connections different? Thanks, Brook
  6. I recently purchased a complete Savannah Beige set of seats from an '02 996 owner. I installed the front seats in my Boxster and put the rears on ebay. I assumed they were leather as the fronts were definitely so. The winner of my ebay auction is complaining bitterly that I've swindled him and the rears are in leatherette. Sadly he's in Australia and I'm in Los Angeles so I'm not in much of a position to argue and have arranged (at my own expense) to have them returned for a full refund. The roundtrip shipping will now eclipse the very reasonable $199 price I sold them for. A complete disaster. I did a little research this afternoon and downloaded a 2003 Carrera Coupe Order Guide. (On page 12) the Savannah Beige Full Leather package seems to indicate that only the rear seat centers and rear seat lateral supports were in leather. The other packages (black, grey, etc) don't make any mention of the rears being anything but full leather. Does that mean the Savanna Beige seats might be a combination of leatherette and leather? Is the winner of my auction mistaken? He seems to think that Option Codes 936 and 939 would provide full leather seats in the rear no matter what. I would like to hear from the experts. Also; if the full leather rear seats are available in Savanna Beige and you happen to have a set for sale I have a customer for you. He will only pay $199US and you'll be responsible for shipping both ways if he doesn't like them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/320916963556 INTERI SD Savanna Beige Full Leather - Items finished in leather: A-pillar/windscreen 999 frame trim (1.0), B-pillar trim (1.3), C-pillar trim (1.4), rear panel trim (1.5), switch panel (2.0), instrument cover/airbag cover (2.1), steering wheel rim (2.7a), airbag module (2.7b), door trim (3.0), door panel (3.1), front of door handle (3.2), glove box cover (3.3), side airbag cover (3.4), lid of storage bin (4.1), gear lever/Tiptronic gear selector and handbrake lever (4.4a/4.4b), Tiptronic gear selector gate (4.6), front center console side trim (4.2), rear center console side trim (4.3), rear seat area side trim (5.0), seat center (7.0), lateral supports and head restraints (7.1), rear seat centers (7.3), and rear seat lateral supports (7.4).
