  1. Hello all- my absolute mint 996 Targa, is officially driving me nuts. Squeeking and rattling constantly. also slow to open. I have had the back access panel off and see all of the equipment, but no idea what to lube to repair the slow opening. As far as the sqeeking, can anyone suggest a lubricant or type that i should lube the rails. Thanks all
  2. If you have a 996 Targa you'll know that the little rubber piece that covers the rear glass' latch tends to degrade and fall apart. I designed a replacement piece that you can 3D print. Just make sure that you use PETG or ABS plastic so it doesn't melt when your car is sitting out in the sun. I'll probably get some filler primer and some matte black paint to make it match the rest of the trim, but I think it turned out pretty well. I don't know how much a genuine replacement costs, but it was a fun little exercise for me. Download for FREE here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3287876 Enjoy!
  3. Hi all, First of all I apologize if I do anything wrong since I only just created this account in order to ask this community a question. We own a Porsche 996 Targa 2002 and as we all know the 996 is prone to engine problems such as IMS and oil and coolant mixture. Today when I was checking if the engine still had enough oil and coolant and decided they needed a fillup I saw something that I did not really like. I've uploaded two pictures one of how the coolant looks and another picture of where you add the oil. Is the yellowish stuff you see ok or is this the first sign of the oil and coolant mixture? The car seems to run fine and never had any problems with engine temperature, hope you guys can help me out on this one! With kind regards, A somewhat nervous 996 owner.
  4. Howdie New on this site. Short intro - bought a beat up 993 Targa 3 years ago whilst living in Dubai. Spent some money on it including a bare metal respray then Company transferred me to Singapore but couldn't take the car with me so exported it back to the UK as I couldn't sell it. Car has failed its MOT on emmissions - no surprise but trying to find out exactly what it is fitted with. The car went straight from the factory to the Middle East and has the following options:- Rest of the world car M6422-63T Engine C32 - Arab states M150 - leaded Can anybody shed any light on what the above codes mean in terms of a catalytic convertor, lambda sensing etc, especially C32 and M150 codes. Thinking to fit a sports cat to it. Some pics added for interest. Thanks
  5. I've searched the forums, and I haven't found a similar issue... I have a 2004 Targa and the windows have been working great up until the last couple of weeks. Now when I have the passenger window down and I press the switch for it to go back up, it'll get about half way up, pause, and then put itself back down. After a couple of tries I can manage to get it to go all the way back up by holding the switch down. I've tried resetting the limits, but that didn't help. The driver's side window works great. Any ideas?
  6. Hi, I've searched the forum and couldn't find an answer and am posting here for your help. Let me know if this isn't the right place for this question. I'm searching for my first 911 and am confused about the headlights. On one 911 targa (2002) the options sticker does not list Litronic headlights but the owner and ppi shop said it does. Another 2002 targa lists the option on the sticker. Do some 2002s have Litronic/bi-xenon headlights as standard equipment? Regards, Mike
  7. Does anyone know how many 997 Targa's were produced? I've looked all over but have only been able to find the total number of 997's produced but not by model.
  8. I have a 2004 Targa with the Bose upgrade. When I bought the car, one of the previous owners had replaced the headunit, removed the Bose amp, and had not reconnected the passenger footwell sub. I'm not a huge music listener in the car, so I'd like to remove the Bose subwoofer to get some more legroom back on the passenger side. However, I can't seem to find a carpeted trim piece to cover the hole that's left by the subwoofer. Does anyone know where I can find that, or have a part number? Thanks!
  9. Hi. I have an '03 996 Targa, and the sunshade recently came off track and broke. It appears that the little plastic clip inside the track that moves the shade back and forth broke, so I'll need to replace that with a new one (I already have the new part.) Well, I brought the car into a dealer, and the guy told me that they'd have to remove the entire roof of the car to get to that little sunshade track, and it would cost thousands of dollars for the work. I got the vibe that he just didn't want to deal with it, but I'm not sure. So, I was wondering if any Targa owners out there have dealt with this. I believe that the 993 sunshade track can be operated on if you simply remove the wind screen, but I'm not totally sure. Is the mechanic at the dealership pulling my chain? I could understand if we were talking thousands to repair the actual Targa top, but the sun shade? Sounds fishy. Thanks!
  10. I'm new to 911/996 world....this is a great site and learning so much just reading random post. Recently purchased a 2003 996 Targa and now unable to open the rear hatch either via remote or the direct button on the door sill. I tried opening/closing the roof multiple times as realize the roof must be in full close position. During the PPI, there were a few roof error codes in the system, but the battery was very low so the errors were thought to be connected to the battery. Read somewhere that disconnecting the battery might clear error codes, but even if that works guess it's just a short term solution. Seems that error is related to a sensor somewhere or an interlock issue. I really enjoy the Targa roof but hoping this isn't the start of a messy (expensive) situation. Thanks to all who might be able to share some advise!
