TPMS Unit?

HI Loren,

I've got a 2006 997 S without TPMS. I've seen several posts that it cannot be retrofit on my car. I would love to know if you can figure out the part number for the computer module that receives the signals from the wheels - it must be possible to update my car. Especially because the wheels I just bought have the sensors built-in already.

I do not know if any additional wiring is needed but I suspect that you will need to change some settings using a PIWIS.

Gundo, did you have any luck with this? I'm thinking of picking up a set of wheels/tires with the TPMS system and was wondering whether any extra hardware (receiving modules, wiring, etc.) was needed, or whether PIWIS changes would do the trick. Thanks.

i have a 2005, and i am wondering if this tpms can be retrofited in 2005. I know tpms wasnt available in 2005, but the dealer replaced my cluster, 2008 part # and it has tpms display but the dealer had to turn it off since i dont have a tpms

Since he had to turn the display off - that would seem to indicate that the new cluster supports it.

yes you are correct , that the cluster supports it, but my quiestion is if my 2005 c2 equipped with the wiring to connect the tpms control unit /? that would be sweet if it does

All Carrera's have custom wire harnesses made at the factory. So, if it was not a factory option - chances are the wiring is not there.

Thanks for the info! I have TPMS and I'm told by my dealership that it's time to replace the battery in them (which I presume is built into part 997 168 103 06). The dealership wanted $1300 to replace all 4 which is pretty lame since TPMS only cost me around $700 with the new car. However, I'm hearing on Rennlist that this is a battery built into the system (again, presumably in the control unit) that can't be replaced.

What I'm confused about is what TMPS part is always replaced when you get tires mounted and what is exactly the expensive part with the battery built into it that I need to reorder?

I've had people tell me that they've picked up the new part for as little as $110 from Suncoast, but * 4 still is $440 plus installation (which can be much less if done when the tires are replaced).

The battery is not replaceable. The sensor looks like this (color and shape can vary with model and year):

You will also need a stem, gaskets and locking nut for each unit.
