Rear Storage / Speaker Compartment Mod

Rear Storage / Speaker Compartment Mod

I have modified the rear storage compartment to handle two (2) 5" subs and two (2) 4" speakers. I will be using Focal speakers, the 5" 13KS subs and a pair or 4" 100CA. The Focal 5" subs are the best sounding subs that I've ever heard. I have spent weeks cutting and shaping this compartment and its finally ready to make the master mold. I will be selling these Rear Speaker/Sub Boxes in the very near future if anyone is interested. They will have a gelcoat finish and I'll make a few colors. I have attached a couple of photo's of the prototype so you can see what it looks like.

Do the subs vibrate the top when it is down?

So far no rattles. Nothing touches any part of the top ribbing and the Focal subs are rated for 100 watts max. at which the suggested optimum wattage is 75 watts. This is not a boom box it just adds the right amount of sub to improve the sound. I also use the original latches for the storage compartment which secures it in place.

The vibration would be my concern. But if it doesn't have that problem it looks like a great solution to a problem many Boxster owners want to solve.

Any idea on price?

Not yet, I'm not looking to make a living at this just to cover my costs and time. I may have a local fiberglass guy do the work for me but that will add some cost, still looking into that possibility. Ideally, I want it to fall between $200-$300. But again, at this time its a WAG.

This is the support topic for the DIY Tutorial Rear Storage / Speaker Compartment Mod. Please post here if you have any questions or feedback.

Any update on this?

Thanks

He ultimately only made one and I bought it from him when he sold his car last year. I intended on using it when I upgraded my stereo system, but ultimately changed my mind and it has been sitting on a shelf in my garage ever since. I've been meaning to post it for sale so someone could get some use from it. If anyone is interested in it, let me know.

What sort of price are you looking for, if you still have it?

Like to install rear speakers in a 03 boxster s with a CDR23 head unit and the factory amp in the front trunk. It has the speakers in the doors. Does any one have the wiring diagram for the 20 pin connector on the amp. The head unit and the amp are connected with a fiber optic cable. Can any one help or point me in the rite direction.

Was there a PDF download for this project or any pictures?   I'm looking to do something similar and would love to see the final product.
