Just to follow up...

The car continues to be clunky at low speed (though perfect once out of first gear). And it continues to make rattling noises in the rear (maybe the clutch is slipping prematurely because it thinks I'm taking my foot off the brake). Anyway, still not satisfied. I find it very annoying. My dealer assures me my software is up to date. Not sure what to do next.

Me? Haven't called PCNA. What kind of process is that? And I definitely don't want to get my local dealer in any sort of trouble. They've very good to me in every other way.

Yes, I see. The dealer has been very good to you (in every other way).

I sense some sarcasm. The dealer has taken excellent care of me in all respects, from sales to service. I fear if I call PCNA it could be perceived by my dealer as ratting them out for something they have tried to help me with, but for whatever reason have not been able to. This is why I'm here trying to help myself. Am I missing something?

Because of the relative "newness" of the PDK technology, even a lot of the dealer's techs are not going to be overly knowledgeable on what problems can and do occur. PCNA, on the other hand, sees the "bigger picture" on this technology, and can often recommend an appropriate course of action for the dealer to try.  A lot of the issues with PDK's have been software related, and there have been multiple updates, some have helped, others not so much.  Talking with PCNA is not going to necessarily get the dealer in hot water, but it could help lead them to a answer that solves the problem.

Thanks. That makes sense. Seems like the best way to go about this would be for me to give my dealer a polite heads up that I'll be contacting PCNA, not as a threat, but as a courtesy.

  • 3 months later...

Glad I found this thread!    Been having a very similar issue with 987.2 2010 Boxster Base 2.9L this morning.

My PDK has always been a bit lurchy at low speed (bumper-to-bumper traffic)...but never had issues at high speeds or once out of 1st.

Well I just upgraded to a plenum air intake and bigger throttle body ... now the problems are much more pronounced and the dreaded "Emergency Transmission Run" message has appeared almost every day for the last 2 weeks.  But nothing was ever very obvious, it kept shifting very normally.

This morning driving to work in the middle of the highway did the light come on, and it became VERY apparent that something was wrong.  Even going from 6th to 7th on the highway the car would drop for a second and then engage the next gear.  It was very scary once I was off the highway at stoplights, the car almost couldn't get out of 1st, and every gear was a challenge to up shift.  Down shifting wasn't bad for what thats worth.

Any ideas whats wrong?  I have kept my car up to date with services at the dealership, so I would guess I have the latest PDK software?

Thanks,

AJ

Does anyone have any updates on this topic? I called PCNA and they opened a ticket with my dealer. But after all this time, there has been no fix and no improvement. The idle rattle persists.

Not really.  Pretty much all the dealer "fixes" have been software based to date.  Are you sure your car has the latest version?

No, I'm not sure. How would I know for sure? All I know is that the dealer told me they updated it twice.

Short of having the car scanned by the PIWIS, call your dealer and ask them if the version they last installed in the latest.

JFP: Yup. Will do. Thanks.

It seems like other folks on this thread have been struggling to find solutions (even after updating the software), so I was hoping for some updates aside from the software angle.
