my '05 C2S is getting the "system fault visit work shop" randomly. When it occurs the power windows do not work and the doors will not lock. Comes and goes. Park Place Dealer Service in Dallas indicate that this is an "instrument cluster" communication error.... Seems rather odd to me and "OUCH", 2K to replace instrument cluster. Not sure i am buying it but want to see if anyone has seen or heard of this symptom before. And btw, I have not been waxing or having the car detailed. It occurred out of the blue.

Do not replace anything until they prove that re-programming does not correct the problem.

They re-programmed on Thursday. Problem re-occurred Saturday evening, remained until noon today, at which point the alarm system, which was not armed, went off (lights flashing and horn blowing) and the error cleared (when describing the problem previously I failed to mention that in addition to the windows and mirrors not working, arming the alarm leaves the doors unlocked, so i stopped arming it). Then around 6 pm today as i was driving home the system check error returned.
