My '05 997 S would'nt shift today ......

It suddenly would'nt shift, but when I'd shut off the car it shifted fine.

I had it flat bedded to Dealership and my Service Tech later called to say the Pressure Plate broke.

Now I just bought this car in April CPO. I'm trying to get the dealer to pay for the clutch as well.

He said it would be a good idea to change clutch as well but i would have to pay out of pocket.

About $400.00 .....Worth it ??

For the 997 Porsche recommends to replace the pressure plate and the disc together (as a unit), because an automatic, disc thickness, compensation system makes part of the pressure plate, in other words, the thickness of the disc must match with the pressure plate adjustment. I would have a talk again with my dealer.

With the motor out already, it makes sense

to buy a new clutch.

I think another name for the pressure plate is the throw

out berring.

I would also get the larger alternator wire installed. The 997-2

has a thicker alternator wire then the 997-1. It is very easy to replace

when the motor is out. The wire itself should be $60 from the

dealer. You could buy one from Sunset for $40 and then

have the dealer put it on. This will improve the hard starting

when the battery gets old.
