Serial number decode

Hi trying to decode serial number on my 2004 911 with a replacement motor in 2010

its m96/03SAT66575200

I know the AT means re-manufactured/replacement, but I haven't seen SAT anywhere, any ideas? Also does the 665 mean it was rebuilt in 2005 or do all late replacement motors have 665?

665 would make it a 2005 manufactured engine.

Any idea what the "S" might be? I have a 2004 anniv, any idea if it might have to do with the x51 pkg? Can't seem to find anything about it

The coding between your engine type and the beginning of the serial number are remanufactured engine code AT and the X51 designation 'S'. The next three digits of the serial number reflect the year of the engine.

66W is 1998

66X is 1999

66Y is 2000

661 through 665 is 2001 through 2005, respectively

your engine type is m96/03

"S" is X51 designation

"AT" designates remanufactured or Austauschmotor

665 designates 2005

Humm, that is contrary to how I have been reading the codes . I have the paperwork from the factory that came with the replacement motor in my car that the PO bought. My car is a 1999 and the serial number includes 66X. But the paperwork is dated December 23, 2005. I would think it is highly unlikely the factory built enough motors in 1999 to stay in stock for up to 5 years.

Complete serial number is M96.01AT66x66691 if someone can explain it better.

Porsche rebuilt (remaned) the 1999 engine in 2005, as best I can make out.

That engine was originally manufactured in 1999. It could have been (factory) rebuilt any time between 1999 and 2005 when it was put in your car.

That engine was originally manufactured in 1999. It could have been (factory) rebuilt any time between 1999 and 2005 when it was put in your car.

The 665 in the serial number says that it is a rebuilt MY2005 engine.

Likely yes - but no way to know for sure without looking.

Based on this sequence number, it is likely the larger bearing was installed in the rebuilt engine.

Your sequence: 69342

Lowest sequence observed thus far with 22mm nut: 66526

Mind you, this is still just a guess... because the sequence number information is not public data.

As Loren states, impossible to tell for 100% certain without looking at it, because 2005 engine years were the first the larger bearing was observed, for the 2006 model years as well as replacements.
