Installed Solid Engine Mounts

Hello All,

Just thought I would give you a review after installing my solid mounts today. I fitted a set of TRG mounts in my 997.2 GT3. If any of you were wondering if these old style mounts work, well the answer is yes and no. I had to do a bit of custom fitting. I also had to get a shorter set of bolts because the set they sent are to long. But after a few hours of tinkering, I finally finished.

I had read a few articles on this topic and basically did the same as the other guys but I went a few steps further to make sure I had no problems later down the road. In these articles the guys said they were surprised by how little extra noise and vibration they gained. I'm not sure what they were expecting but I will tell you there is extra noise and vibration. I'm not unhappy with it but there is a lot of new vibration noise inside the car. You don't feel it so much but it sounds like the doors are coming apart and the rear view mirror is going to come off.

I think the engine tone is get now. It is louder and just screams at high RPM's. It does sound a bit like a diesel at idle now. I don't mind but didn't expect it. The major plus is in the handling and the power delivery. The car is much more planted and less twitchy. The power comes in much stronger too. If you are looking for a performance upgrade that is easy and you don't mind a bit more noise and vibration, mounts are a good bang for the buck.

Thanks and I promise you it doesn't idle much, LOL. I think I will need to invest in a good set of ear plugs now. Can't imagine the noise when I change the exhaust. I might as well remove the radio now too because that beautiful engine note is all you can hear. The wife asked if it was worth it. Silly question. :)

That's correct aehsani. I did not have the dynamic mounts. From what I have read they are a good compromise but they still don't give you the feel of soild mounts. I think in a Carrera or a Turbo the dynamics would be the way to go because you could keep you ride quality but for a GT3 I believe the solids are best. :D
