Hey Guys,

Does anyone have any official sheet for the above fluids 2011-2014

Thank you

Is an up to date data sheet for transfer and differential fluids still available?

steph - you may want to read:

Read the entire thread actually.

It is - as they say "a piece of cake" to do the job (especially if you have a lift) - both fill and drain are on the backside of the transfer case. You do want some sealant to put on the plugs before refilling them. You do want to remove the fill first (I hope I don't have to explain why..) And you do want to use a torque wrench (small 3/8" one or even 1/4" one - 12ft/lbs isn't much torque at all) to tighten them up.

#1 is fill, #2 is drain.

Make sure you can loosen the fill plug, before you start the drain.

That's twice he's been told. Hopefully.. he's paying attention (it's a real PITA to find you're not able to remove the fill plug after draining the TC.. but - you only make that mistake once.)

BTW - Steph - when you're done - please post your results here. I'd like to keep a running total on success with this.

A note of caution!!

I have recently changed my TC fluid for the second time. The first time there were no problems and as others have said, its all pretty simple. However, despite following  the correct tightening torque on drain plug, it was overtightened causing a hair line crack in collar around screw hole. It seemed as though the red sealant that coats the new replacement plug acted like a lubricant and plug was continuing to go in without much resistance.  I managed to salvage the situation for now, by unwinding the drain nut a few turns and leak stopped. Although it hasn't dripped again now for a few weeks of normal running, I imagine it may be a big problem the next time I go to replace flu id.

So is it recommended to get new plugs for this job?

Recommended, yes. Necessary, no.

The existing plugs can be cleaned and new sealant applied. I used a wire brush and some cleaner to remove the old sealant and then put some Permatex 59214 High Temperature Thread Sealant on them. I picked mine up at Amazon but your local parts store probably carries it as well.

As noted above, be very careful when tightening the plugs so as not to crack the case. I used the correct size hex key and did it just snug as opposed to a larger torque wrench.

I bought new plugs and decided to use only one new one.  I put the better of the two back into the fill hole.   I did not have any issue tighten but I snugged it up carefully due to all the comments I read about cracking the case.   My case had started to skip on my 2011 CS,  the fluid that I drained was black as night.   I replaced the oil with Ravenol J1C1125 transfer fluid TF-0870.  Didn't quite use the full liter.  This is the easiest job to do, you can slide under the cayenne,(with mine fully raised there was plenty of room).  the plugs face toward the back of the vehicle.  There is enough room to hold the bottle up during filling, the Ravenol bottle comes with a nice pull out spout and tube extension, made filling super easy.   This eliminated the skipping that had started, my plan is to do this every other oil change as well.

I didn’t get pictures as my phone was not with me when changing out the fluid.

The fluid I drained out of the TC was medium brown in color.

I put Ravenol in and the TC seems slightly smoother.

Very easy to do and I agree with changing the TC fluid every oil change interval.
