Door Lock Microswitch Part no.

Hi

 

I have the usual issue with the microswitch on the driver's door lock having worn to the extent that it no longer triggers that the door is open, hence when the handle is released the window goes back up despite the window being open.

 

I made a 'bodge' repair to the microswitch as a temp measure but that didn't last long and I really do need to replace the microswitch but I can only find the whole lock listed as a replacement part. I understand from another thread here that the microswitches are standard 'Cherry' parts, but it seems they make thousands of different microswitches. 

 

Does anyone know exactly which microswitch is used?    Stupidly I didn't note the part number when I had the door apart...

I have tried replacing the microswitch per this thread on Rennetch:

I ended up just replacing the entire unit.

I also just replaced the whole mechanism. $160. If you want to try my old micro switches you can have mine. I know they work but may not be in the best condition. The lock plastic actually wore out on mine

I guess replacing the whole unit is the ideal solution, but I am on a fairly tight budget for Porsche ownership so trying to only spend out for the essential bits!  I took this apart again yesterday and have repaired it temporarily by putting a piece of thin plastic across the top of the switch which seems to work ok for now, but isn't a proper permanent repair.  I had bought another microswitch online which was quite similar and tried to swap the rubber piece which sits over the top of the microswitch but it was impossible to attach, hence using the temporary solution for now.

I just encountered this problem. The crazy thing is that the driver side door latch went bad while I was replacing the passenger side outer handle switch.  I patted myself on the back for a job well done and then when I went to drive the car I discovered the latch problem. What are the odds?

 

Anyway, I know how to remove the inside door panels now. Is there a DIY for the actual R&R of the door latch?

Still debating whether to do this myself.  I've had the door panel off and that wasn't too bad. Seems like a lot of tricky connections to this thing, but probably sounds worse than it is.

 

Pelican Parts has it for $190 with free shipping. For my 2000 Cab, the part number for the driver's side is 8N1-837-015-C-M1002

It does sound worse than it is and is very doable.  Take lots of digital photos when you are removing the old assembly for reference and you won't have a problem.

 

AutohausAZ has the same part number for $23 less.

Excellent!  If you get the new door lock assembly and need a little help or encouragement, let me know.  I have a garage with all the tools we might need and I've done the replacement on my Boxster.  I'm a block away from the Freeport Village Hall.

Bumping a year-old thread...my passenger-side door lock mechanism has packed it in.  Only problem is that it self-terminated in the "locked" position.  Driver-side key, central lock, and inner pass handle do not release.  Is there a clever alternative way to release this door lock?  Part two is: has anyone successfully removed the passenger side door panel from inside the car, while it was locked?    :cursing:

For what it's worth, I just checked the Pelican site and while the catalog shows page shows $195, once I added it to my cart up came a notice about a price change...to $335!

For  8N1-837-015-C  -- Porsche's US MSRP is 263.11

I am sure Sunset Porsche would have a better price.

The price of the part has gone up significantly. Autohausaz has it for about $250.  I never came back to this thread afterwards, but I followed the DIY  that I listed above and it wasn't too difficult.  Good luck.
