Another one to add to the list of jobs...

 

The passenger side wiper which has a double linkage and double shaft, one of the shaft metal bush is cracked and the wiper doesn't work correctly. The shaft spins inside the wiper arm and relies on the other part of the linkage and shaft to make the passenger wiper sweep in a fashion. 

So I'm looking and thinking about a cost effective Fix for the infrequent bit of rain we get here. 

Few ideas:

1. make another bush machine shop job

2. Make a home made bush out of aluminium can, seen this done before. 

3. Drill and tap and then screw through the arm and into the shaft to lock all components together. 

 

Anyone had this issues and fixed it? 

Picture won't load up ....error 200????

If the wiper motor was caput I would agree. To fix a small bush at a relatively cheap expense it's got to be worth a punt. I'll be sure to post my failure if thats the McGivering result. 

Not to mention I'm broke and saving up for professional injector cleaning next week. Lol another day in paradise....

While using some blue (read medium strength) Loctite is a good idea on low torque fasteners that tend to come loose, over torqueing them or using red thread locker is decidedly a very bad idea, as he will likely discover if he ever needs to disassemble the components in the future..........

If you're talking about the little cone bushing which goes on the passenger side wiper I think I got one for $8 from the dealer. I would never replace an arm without a new bushing, they are Aluminum and Porsche considers them a one time use item as they deform a little upon tightening.

Thanks for the tip. Is this part number 14 described as cone washer?

I did Fix this by installing a stainless steel washer under the nut and some super glue on the shaft between the split bush.

Tighten the nut onto the stainless steel washer and left it over night. Been working fine ever since.

From practical experience, you are better off replacing the bushing.  Glue and other "fixes" tend to ultimately fail.

Yep i got that.  

Unless folks your stuck in the middle of nowhere without any other option (which I wasn't stuck in the middle of nowhere), use the proper bush and don't bodge it like me.

Up until sold the wiper still worked just fine. 

I'm sure of they stop working the new owner will swiftly Whatapps me about it. Lol. 

 

Got someone coming to see the Audi tomorrow! It's an old classic saying "the first to see will buy" , but in this case first to drive will definitely be hooked. So I may be using a rental for a while until we move to uk.
