Hi.

Need help sorting fault code P0344 - Camshaft position sensor "A" circuit intermittent(bank 1 or single sensor)

And P0705 Transmission range sensor Circuit malfunction(PRNDL input)

Some times i also get P0500 Vehicle speed sensor. With this faults i get check engine lamp. transmission goes to limp mode(shows the solid D in display) Rev limit is 4000rpm.

I have changed both cam sensors, transmission range sensor, transmission control unit and battery. Cleaned all electric contacts using a few bottles of elecrical cleaner and brushed all groundings i can find. Engine has only run 62000 miles and seems to be in good shape.

Porsche center used a full day checking engine timing, Measured cam sensors and harness and this is spot on. So it had to be a bad ecu causing both transmission and engine faults.

I have now replaced ecu but i get the same fauts. The only difference is a smaller wallet.

To me, this sounds more like a harness issue than sensors or the DME.  Intermittent loss of signal can be a bear to catch, but it can be done using real time data logging to see what is going on when the event happens.  Good luck.

Update.

Transmission codes is sorted. This was a bad wire inside the transmission connector under the car.

Also resoldered all wires both sides under carpet inside car. The foam was soaking wet due to clogged water drains in front of car. it was maybe 10 of these corroded wires.

I still get code P0344 Immediatley after startup. i Have scoped the signals from both cam sensors, and i dont think they overlap very good. There is some interference in the signal but i think this is from the cheap hantek oscilloscope i got from ebay? There was some spikes in the signal as well, i changed all coils and the spikes is gone.

Can the p0344 relate to a bad or sticky cam actuator/solenoid?

P0344 Camshaft position sensor 1 - open circuit

Possible fault cause:
- Camshaft rotor (phase sensor wheel) damaged.

-Cam Position sensor electrical fault (bad sensor, damaged wiring)

You need to the check camshaft rotor for damage and read the cam position sensor for correct signal.

Both rotors is inspected and both sensors is changed. Oscilloscope also tells me the rotors is okay. I also had the crank sensor replaced because of a crank cam correlation code P0016. this code i have not seen in a while, maybe gone after transmission cable repair i dont know..

Wires from cam sensor to DME is measured and good. As mentioned DME is also replaced.

I have vagcom connected but i cant find any values for cam timing in measuring blocks. Any idea where i can find the values? all other values seems to be there.

i also got durametric but i get a faut message on this as well. module failed to initialize i think.

i'm not suppose to own a porsche :p
