Hi folks,

 

The Porsche community shares a sentiment in which all 911's should be saved- if possible. Well... we took that to heart!. We recently were in the look out for that "perfect one". The one that we could modify to our specs with out the fear of screwing up (since it was already done for us). The picture below shows a 911 that was "totaled" by hurricane Irma back in 2017. The picture below illustrates mold from severe water damage.. Yes.... it was that bad!

 

The question is... Can it really be saved or Are we wasting out time? With the help of German Auto Specialists, we felt we could give it a second chance! What are your thoughts?

You don't want to know my thoughts...  Tell me this is a one-off car that won the 24 hours of LeMands driven by the Porsche factory drivers.  It has to be a special car with the provenance to go with it to warrant the expense.  But we all do silly things that have no reason other than you wanted to do it, ask me how Iknow...

I guess there are a couple of ways to go with this. I don't see a back-to-stock being worth the time/effort/money. However, this is a great candidate to become a monster street/AX/HPDE/Time Attack car. Or.... if it's a C4, Dakar Rally 996!

Feel free to express yourself @creekman. This is an ordinary 996-special in the sense of what it went through. Flooded cars are “doomed” in most people’s eyes... But can they be saved? And should they? 

 

We believe so and opted to take the challenge. 

 

Note: I no way the car will be back to its stock form @jaekormtb

The term "worth it" is determined by each individual taking the time to decide. From a purely educational point of view, your project can be considered the ultimate opportunity in Porsche related learning. Then there's the monetary side which is tightly wound together with how much DIY and donor parts with which you're willing to work.

 

From the photos above it looks like you are really making some great progress!
