Boxster top stuck in up position

Recommended Posts

1999 Boxster manual transmission

- Was working yesterday

- Brake light is on

- Fuses b6 and d3 are fine

- Windows go down 4" when unlatching

- Should top light come on when unlatching, because it does not?

- 1st microswitch must be working because when unlatching windows go down 4"

- 2nd microswitch that I have read about I cannot see.

- When pressing top down button or top up, no sound, no lights dimming, nothing.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

Hello, John:

I hope you get some answers, because I have the same top issue

with my 1999.

No the top light doesn't come on.

Unlike your car my parking brake light isn't on.

I've had to pull the push-rods off the lid and frame in order to close the roof.

It's a real P.I.T.A. to re-align the transmissions and put them back on.

Sorry I could not have been more of a help!

Philip, From my reading on your problem it is probably the parking brake light switch that is not working. When you lift the parking brake, the switch opens up, and when putting the parking brake down it closes the switch.  It seems some people open/close the parking brake a number of times and the switch starts working.  But  the switch may need swapped out which is $10 on amazon, and about an hour of work to take out the center console and replace the switch.

Yes, thanks.

I bought the top microswitch [where the roof hook locks into] as well as the parking brake switch a couple of months back from Pelican,

but haven't gotten to them yet.

I have lots of roof related projects including a new Robbins top with glass to replace the present cloth top [ with a ripped plastic window]

sitting in the garage.

Did you need to take the driver's seat out to get to remove the center console? There's instructions in the "101 Projects" book,

although it isn't specific to replacing the switch.

No need to take seat(s) out.  Maybe not perfectly accurate, but as I remember it, you just need to take out 2 Torx under center console hinged lid (1 under coin holder).  2 Torx under ash tray.  1 Torx under shift boot.  And a couple side panels on the console.  2 towards front, two towards back and one right next to shift lever on driver side.
