Boxster 986 soft top operation on the move

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have been trying to find the thread about mods to enable me to open and close the soft top help without having to stop and put the hand brake on. Its really bad to find its raining in a slow moving traffic jam! Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Clive

There is another way, which is cheap. It'll require some searching because I don't have the link handy... but there is a way to modify the top relay by clipping off (or bending over) a particular pin. This will allow you to lower or raise the top with the car moving. Now, you have to make sure you don't do it when going faster than 25 or so, or you could cause damage. Also, you have to pull the parking brake up one click to enable operation. Search for Boxster hacks and you should find the relay mod.

I think this is what you are looking for. I'd opt for the safer method with the speed restriction. This might be a short-term fix while you save your allowance...

top down while moving hack

Many thanks I'll give it a go and if we use it alot I think that we will shell out for the SMART TOP, might be a sepdn to save with a new hood in the £1000's

Does anyone know where the page went that talked about how to modify the relay for the cabrio top so that you can operate the top while moving AND without having the handbrake? Is it something like disconnect pin 18 plus disconnect pin 15 from the harness, but connect the relay's pin 15 to +12v? (or ground?)

PS: Gary's page at http://www.iq.dynip.com/~gary/hacks/cabrio/cabrio.html is gone!

Thanks!

The US web site is www.wilhelmy-it.com, I have one and I love it. I use the auto feature all the time. If you order it through the special offers section, it will save you a little bit of money.

What is the "special offers" page you speak of?

I just found this Hack (even though the link pointed back to my other favorite P-site)

...removed the relay, taped Pin 18, reinstalled the relay, completed in 2 Minutes and all is well...no issues.

Thanks again for keeping this site up and running.

It know it has helped me on countless occasions to date.

I believe the big difference between the hack and module is the module still has a speed limiter so the top is not damaged at high speed. Maybe someone knows of another plus to the more expensive module that I did purchase and love...
