  • Description 2001 986 S that I ordered in the fall of 2000. I kept it stock while it was under warranty, then picked up a hard top and speedster humps off e-bay. The first modifcation was the Porsche Hi Perf Audio System, that consisted of a larger amp, three speakers per door and larger dash speakers.. After that I painted some interior parts, and added mods like the in dash spoiler switch with indicator light, garage door opener and foot well lights. I want to thank Shane, Bill, Todd, and Loren for their help with other modifications especially the 996 into 986 instrument cluster project (which required some programing). When I ordered this car I thought it was odd that the 996 style cluster was not an option, being the dash and actually whole front of the 986 and 996 are the same. 6-15-11 update:After ten years of 986 fun I just installed a 997 74mm throttle body and IPD intake pipe and plenum...to complete the cold air intake mod, Amazing results... WOW! * Check out the photo! Over the past winter I installed the guardian system, that should detect if the IMS bearing or any other metal parts start to break down. 6-2014 UPDATE: The clutch was still going strong, but being the car is almost 15 years old I had Jake Raby at FLAT SIX put in the duel row ceramic IMS retrofit kit and preventative Package #4, After dyno etc I know the car runs better now than it did when it was new, and now with no worries about the IMS I'll just drive and enjoy this car, probably for another 15 years!! If you have any questions about IMS retrofits call Jake then talk to Jud to set up an appointment.

Hey, I like the mods... I really like the cluster change... Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to steal a couple ideas.

As a fellow 2001 986S owner I appreciate what you've done and have performed several of the same mods myself. What are your thoughts on the IPD intake mods? I autocross and am concerned that I might lose some bottom end torque with the larger diameter pieces.
