Front Bumper Removal on 2008 997

Recommended Posts

I removed the front bumper on my new 2008 997 C4S to install screens over the two side and center radiators (x51 w/manual trans). I searched the forum and found info for earlier models which I used as a guide. However, my car has some fasteners in different places and required a slightly different procedure so I thought I would share it with the group.

1. Remove Front Side lights. (Not sure this is needed since there is no screw behind light. However, it is useful when reinstalling to see the slide hook) There is a screw just rear of the light which you can access after removing the Wheel Well Cover.

2. Remove Front Cover in Trunk. Held on with Velcro. No Screws.

3. Remove Headlights.(See owners manual)

4. Remove Wheel Well Covers.

5. Remove screw just rear of side lights.

5. Remove Clips inside headlight openings where Front Bumper Cover is attached to sheetmetal. It might be possible to remove these through a small opening in the trunk. However, it is far easier if the headlights are removed. Also, if the car has headlight washers then you will need to remove the Drivers side headlight anyway.

6. Unhook Headlight washer hose in Drivers side headlight opening. Slide hose rearward to unhook after disconnecting. Either plug hose or put in container to collect fluid.

7. Remove screws at top of Bumper Cover.

8. Remove screws at bottom of Bumper Cover.

9. Remove Bumper. Disconnect Wiring as needed.

It is not a hard job once you have done it. However, it took me about 1.5 hours since I had to be careful that I had removed

the correct screws, clips, etc. since my car was different from instructions for earlier models.

Hope this is of use to others.
