  2. Was out on the Pelican website, looking for some maintenance parts. Saw a listing for the TPMS control module. My 2006 Boxster S, manual didn't have that as an option. Was wondering if I bought the unit, installed it would the TPMS feature work, assuming I purchased tire sensors etc.
  3. Service advice needed. I have 2006 Boxster S, original owner etc. I only have 12k miles on it, the last maintenance I had was the 60K, dealer said although miles are low, its old, and that was most appropriate, that was done 2 years ago. I've just replaced the tires, spent $1300 & now am wondering what service should I get. Of course the dealer is recommending 80K service, plus a convertible top service, cooling system flush, transmission flush, alignment flush - all extras he suggested, all told $2900. Because of the new tires, i believe an alignment is in order, so no issue there with that.
  4. Hi. Why go back, is my first question? What head unit do you have? If you want to go back to Porsche head unit, you are talking big $$$$. My Boxster head unit doesnt spit out CD's, a rebuilt repalcement unit is around $3200 + installation. Plus it depends on how the current head unit was installed, wiring-wise? Do you have a Bose system?
  5. I would recommend doing the e-gas recalibration first, then verify fuel pressure. Note it's normal the fuel pump only turns on for about 1 second to prime the system at cranking. The fuel pump will keep running only if the engine fires up. That's a trivial safety feature.

  7. I concur with JFP. A smoke test is in order. Could be your evap canister has cracked due to age/mileage.
  8. No, don't have Durametric or any other tester. What is e-gas?
  9. Hi, the car was in a heated garage in a room temperature. So it is completely dry. We did, however, clean the floor mats with wet carpet cleaner. That thing has strong vacuum and do not leave the carpets really wet. No sings of rodent. When cranking rev counter rose to maybe 100 rpm. I guess my car was build in Germany - but not really studied the case
  10. So I've unsuccessfully been looking for a pic of how a carpet-less 986 looks like, but no luck. I.e., I'd appreciate if someone could give me a pointer. Besides, I''m also looking for a pic of how a stripped down (fully exposed) brake handle looks like -- without all the plastic. I just got those aluminum race floor-panels that I'm debating whether to install, in lieu of my soaked & stinky carpets, or not: (Btw, if anyone in SF bay area knows how to reset an immobilizer, please p.m. me) -- peer
  11. I just picked up a 2011 Cayenne S with faulty air suspension. I got it with the bladders fully deflated and assumed there was a leak, after jumping the pins on the compressor the suspension was able to air back up. I checked to make sure the 40 A fuse wasn't blown, no problems there. I assume it must be a bad relay, does anyone know where it is located? I cant seem to find any info regarding the relay...

  15. Just get a genuine or Pierburg (OEM). Both use composite blades.
  16. For 986 boxsters - Has anyone got or has put together a list of water/coolant pumps by brand showing which have metal and which have plastic impellers ? It would be useful as so many here are saying don’t get a replacement with metal impeller . Thanks
  17. I am loosing fuel pressure when engine is off. I have replaced both pumps and the pressure regulator. I suspect that one of the many fuel lines inside the tank is bleeding off pressure. How can I test this.

  19. Usually, yes. A metal impeller will do unfixable damage to the engine cases, resulting in overheating issues that cannot be fixed, as well as filling the entire cooling system with fine metal dust that is a pain to get out.
  20. I would be smoke testing the system before dropping the tank with the code you have. If you take the time or pay someone to replace a part that is not the actual issue, and before confirming the actual fault, you are going to feel pretty dumb, and we don’t want that happening 😳
