  2. The new 45* ring has a .032 gap and the old n on beveled ring is .018
  3. Welcome to RennTech What is the end gap of the ring in question when inserted alone into the cylinder bore at a depth of about 1 inch below the deck?
  4. I'm trying to put my engine back together now. At the piston stage. My pistons are the ones with the anti-spin piece in line with the wrist pin. The piston rings that came out of the engine didnt have the 45* bevel at the ends of the intermediate ring. The new rings do. This ring is giving me problems with going into the cylinder. Not sure if I need a different (bigger) gap. Anyone have any experience to share with me? First picture is of the old rings. Second is new rings.
  5. The log report shows code 21 Airbag B05 and lists that part number. I am unsure if that means the sensor is simply reading a fault from an unidentified input or if it is that part. I can’t much much information on code 21. The local shop told me I needed a new airbag, but how can they tell? I had the signal stock changed a while ago and the the car back in for the steering squeaking. I am wondering if it is possibly a loose or damaged connection, the clock spring, control sensor or the actual bag. I don’t want to randomly start changing parts. I cleared the fault once and it didn’t come back for about 1k miles.

  7. Had to put this on back burner due to work, but I'm attacking it today. I can't seem to get the intake and injectors lined up. I have the injectors loosely installed and I'm trying to position the intake between it and the block. Any pointers? How did everyone do this? Thx
  8. How did you get Durametric to specify that part? I have the exact same B05 code in my '02 C2. I think we have the exact same error here and hopefully the same solution.
  9. Hi all, 99 boxster base. Since replacing the coolant my low coolant light blinks....added coolant ...its fine for a while then blinks again then goes off after car is at operating temp. I guess the fluid expands when hot and the light goes out. Toped off coolant opened the bleed valve and drove for a while then shut it to purge any air in the system but light keeps coming back.....thoughts?

  11. Using the Durametric tool I have code B05 Drivers Circuit calling for part 996 618 219 01. Does this indicate I need to change the sensor or should I be looking at something else? The car is an 02 C2.
  12. Thanks Richard, I was hoping you'd read this. I should have updated my profile, I actually now have a 2010 997.2 C2, profile fixed now BTW. I provided the link to this post to them, I don't know whether they followed your instruction to the letter. Since I'm bringing the car to OPC, and there isn't a lot of 911s in Wellington (New Zealand) so this might be the first one they have to do. So I'm hoping to be able to get them to read through a set of instructions rather than doing trial and error. The indy said that using Durametric, the DME didn't show an option for cruise control. Using their 'older' Piwis, it showed cruise control but didn't accept the setting provided.

  14. You shouldn't make any changes to the Gateway. Only the DME, Instrument Cluster, and Steering Electronics. Your profile says you have a 2003 996. In that case, look into the DME Vehicle Data, and check that the Order Code is entered correctly. For a RHD C4 Cabriolet, it should be 996611. Then do a FULL Control Module search, and code the instrument cluster and DME for "with cruise control".
  15. Well a week at the dealer and still it's not running. They said to take it to the next level is going to be a minimum of $1,200 on top of what they already charged me and there is no guarantee it will run and the estimate will only go up from there unless of course they find something quickly and they can cover it in the $1,200 but like they said no guarantee it will run. So I'm having the car towed back to my place and will start going through all of the wiring Saturday morning. I have this feeling it's something stupid that everyone is over looking or at least I hope so or it will be a nice lawn ornament. They did initially mention steering column but ruled that out, then it was crank sensor (I did put in a new one) then changed their mind. I'll keep posting till either I get it running or scrap it which I would hate to do as it ran so well initially.

Yeah, don't talk to people who are in this business and deal with similar situations daily (shop owners and former Porsche employees) - yeah, ask people who give uneducated opinions on other forums. Actually, my advice is talk to an attorney and ask him if it could affect your defense if you are involved in an accident.

  18. It is not a matter of personal concerns, it is on the advice of legal counsel. What other website do or do not do does not concern me, but we cannot allow either this site, or me personally, to become the "deep pockets" in the legal equations resulting from actions beyond our control.
  19. Interesting. I had for years not bothered with TPMS' in winter given the initial drop in pressure with very low (below -35) temps and disabled it via VCDS (or VAG-COM) on my Touaregs and RS5. I've never read or heard anyone mention this in any Audi or VDub forum nor Uwe Ross at Ross Tech. But back to my question, would PoCom or Durametric or other be able to disable it? I'm also trying to decide what monitoring system is best for my recently ordered 2019 Macan S. siberian
  20. Let's start with the basics: Year and model of the car, and what code are you seeing?
  21. Hi Oscar..... I've recently had the same code for the same reason. And as you say, the pipe/cat for each bank crosses to the opposite side and muffler. In my case, I found a chaffed sensor wire that was grounding to the chassis. I have a Europipe exhaust system and it's larger pipes/cats make it impossible to deal with the O2 sensors without removing the whole system. Given that I was going to have to R&R the bumper cover and exhaust system, I decided to just replace all 4 O2 sensors while I was at it and not worry about it later. The sensors already had 60K mi on them. Good luck.
  22. Touchy subject. The TPMS is a federally mandated safety system; altering it, or turning it off could result in the party that told you how to do it being held liable if you got into an accident afterwards.
  23. Okay guys, I have been getting the CEL with this code for a while... reset, drive a few times, no light... then returns on way home from Autocross... So I order a post-cat O2 sensor and when I go to put it on, I notice that the Cat for bank 1 (Driver side) is on the other side because the exhaust crosses behind the engine... I assumed that since it monitored the exhaust from bank one that it just plugged in on the other side of the engine bay. I thought I was right because I drove it a few times with no light but on my way to Autocross last weekend, it came on again. Before I start undoing stuff, do I have it backwards or does the car look at it as Bank1 if the sensor is plugged in on the Bank 1 side. As anyone who has done this knows, it is a pain in the butt to get these in and out of a 996 GT3 so prior to subjecting myself to the discomfort, I figured I would solicit advice. Thanks!!!
