Hardtop pieces?

Recommended Posts

Berny, I found 2 of those pieces on the floor. I thought at first they were something to do with the seat. I couldn't find the part number on the PET cd. Only thing I can think of is that it's about the same diameter as the "discs" that you pop off when putting the hardtop on and off and wondered if they belonged in that area underneath somewhere. I haven't been to the dealer since I found them, but I certainly will ask him next time I go. My top mechanism works fine. It's very confusing. If I find out anything I'll let you know. You should have 2 of them.

Berny, while I can't find the part nos for that piece you mentioned, I'm pretty sure it's associated with the hardtop because of the similarity of the part nos. Will keep checking. Don't throw it away, there is a second one somewhere in your car and that may be the clue as to where it goes. :)

Loren, Don, yes that;s the parts. I have just one of them though. The other must still be in the car somewhere. Just after I read your posting I looked the top over thoroghly. Couln't figure where they go. So, I decided to take the back of the carpet up behind the top. The bit where the top control box is hidden. Still could not see where they go. Then checked the roll bar area. Still nothing. Very strange. One thing though, the diameter of the curved bit fits perfectly on the roll bars so maybe they have something to do with it. But then they are also the same diameter as the little circular bits that you pop back in the back parcel shelf where the top sprigots lock. I give up..... :(

My top works fine though.

Good one Loren, That's it. However, they are a terrble fit and I can see how they got lost in the first place. I must admit they do have a use as an anti-scratch device. Mine has a few marks where the lever slipped while I tried to prize them out. Anyway, I have found only one so after all this I think I will live without them.

But thanks heaps anyway.

I found both of them. Berny, look around under your seats. That's where I found mine. Gee Loren, the pic looks just like the diagram you posted!

Hey Don,

Good to see the other side of your garage is like everyone elses......untidy :P

I have looked everywhere. Believe me, I can't find it. However, I have found a watch my wife lost two years ago

Thanks for the update on the alu stuff. I will let you know how I go.

Biggest hurdle at the mo is to see if my dealer fixes my RMS......after that I will do the alu bits.

Talking of which. do you still have the alu seat mechanism bits your were selling?

I just noticed the Carerra decal on the back seat board. What a great idea. Way cool. I'm gonna do the same. Hope you don't mind me stealing these ideas off you all the time but your car is the ikon for us cab guys.

No problem, Berny. I took my old Carrera 4 badge from the car and mounted on a piece of stiff plastic then screwed it into the back seat board. The carpeted board is the same material is that on the front trunk carpeted piece that is removable. Good luck. BTW, if I had it to do over again, I would paint the lexan piece dark blue to avoid the "reflective" look.

I also added Arctic Silver armrests/pocket doors

These are part of the hardtop install to prevent scratching. Look at picture 2 under the second arrow...

p.s. I split this topic out as a seperate subject from the RMS thread...

Hello Loren. Do you have the rest of that graphic that you put up? My other question; Do you know where I can get the tool that is displayed in the picture? I bought my Porsche secondhand and it did not come with the tool or Owners Manual.

Thank you!

Brian

There are new style and old style hardtop latches.

We will need your model year and if it is the range when they converted you could have either. In that case it would be best to give us a photo of what you have.

You may have the tool and not know it as I did. Check the tool pouch in the boot. I have a MY 99 and the tool I have does not look like the one in this thread. It is all metal. You don't have to use the tool. You can use a kitchen knife to pry off the round tabs and then I believe it is a 9mm hex. I had installed mine a couple of times before I found the tool.
