Jacking Points ?

I have read 5-10 articles on jacking for maintenance and it seems everyone of them causes some sort of damage; minimal in some cases, but still damage.

I have seen people go as far as using the strut bars as either jacking points or as jackstand contact points.

I have questions about any of the jacking points, beyond the "Stock" jacking point.

Has anyone encountered alignment problems after jacking the car or supporting the car from the strut bars.

I have seen some pictures which showed obvious flexion in the bar; looked really bad to me.

Has anyone used any parts of the vehicle as acceptable jacking points; without incurring damage i.e. wheel carrier etc..

I saw a fatality, which was caused by improper jacking, it was very grizzly, but quick, so needles to say I am fastidious in this area. :unsure:

Our local Boxster group has jacked up many cars over the years without a problem. The first pic is my car up by about 14" and I have gone the full 19" capacity of my jack and I can still open and close the doors.

We do not jack on strut bars. The next 2 pics have Xs for the front and rear stands. I leave the jack in place if I can when a car is on stands. We sometimes work on driveways that have a slope and we also have an earthquake from time-to-time. Sometimes, if we have removed the wheel, I will slide the wheel under the part of the car we are working on because if the car falls down the wheel is bigger than my chest.

Your third picture looks precariously close to the strut, the second picture is excellent, it looks very supportive and good spot to lift the vehicle.

This is the first time [second picture], I have seen that spot being used as a good jacking point.

Once again you came through - Tool Pants, you are a plethora of Boxster knowledge. :>)

If you read Toolpants post he says they do NOT jack on strut bars. They place jack stands at the spots marked with the yellow "X" they do NOT jack there.

I use the standard jacking points as does Toolpants, and then use the same areas marked with a yellow "X" for the placement of jack stands.

It should not make any difference whether the jack or the stand is under the "X". the stress will be the same.

I've found that on the '00 the front "X" points are covered by a plastic bellypan as is most of the uncercarriage. The rear "X" points at the diagonal bar is as the pictures show, exposed.

In the quest to avoid paying the stealer $650 to replace the oil separator bellow I've jacked the boxster by using the rear jack points for the jack and supporting the car on jack stands at the rear "X" points and at the front factory jack points. I am using the 2 rear XI points and the two front factory supports.

And if there was an easy way to get the bellow out...
