mk1 Aero Wing Questions

OK So I just installed an mk1 Aerokit rear wing onto my '99 996 C2.

Looks great, but looks are not everything. I bought this to balance out the aero with the rest of the mk1 aerokit already installed.

I instruct at the local track and am hoping this gives a bit more high speed stability at over 100mph.

Anyway, I was told by the previous owner that the C2 OE wing harness will swap over. It does not.

The C2 harness has additional wiring for the wing motor and 4th brake light and most importantly the position sensor wires are permanently attached to the wing motor gearing.

So since my rear deck lid was already damaged by a previous owner's botched attempt to fasten a TechArt wing, I decided to cut the harness off.

I reused the cut harness & also the fan motor/ engine bay light housing for the Aerokit wing. 3 screws fasten it in the proper location. So far so good.

However while the engine compartment light now works, the engine bay vent fan does not seem to be coming on even after getting the car pretty hot on a long test drive.

First question is where is engine bay ambient temperature sensor? or does the fan come on due to engine temps?

Next question is, if this harness will not allow proper operation of the fan, can somebody give me the correct part # for the correct Aerokit harness.

The engine compartment purge fan rarely comes on. Mine has only come on twice -- and I live in 90 plus degree California! Here are the conditions the fan comes on at.

From the service manual...

"Switch-on conditions for engine compartment fan (this fan pulls air into the engine compartment) The engine compartment fan is switched on when the engine compartment temperature is > 176 degrees F or the coolant temperature is > 216 degrees F.

After-running of engine compartment fan

If the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is more than 140 degrees F, the DME control module remains in readiness for another 20 minutes. During this time, the engine compartment temperature is retrieved every 10 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is > 185 degrees F , the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is still > 185 degrees F after this time, the fan remains on for a further 30 seconds."

Just out of curiousity, do you know where the engine compartment temp is measured?

Bill: I am also looking for the engine compartment temp sensor location. Did you ever hear back on your question? My fan (2002C4S) runs as soon as engine temp hits 180 + (f) and runs for 20 mins after shut down. I also get a "blower motor failure warning" from the on board computer and a blinking temp light.
