If this is true then leaving the engine compartment open at idle the light should go off.

Bad sensor in the coolant tank?

Sometimes it is further up behind the front bumper.

Also something the may help is to have a 2nd person push gently on the front hood log area while you activate the release.

If that does not work then you might have to remove the front bumper cover - which means replacing some parts and if not done correctly the front bumper can be damaged.

So - good luck on that.
