There are 2 TSBs on these little noise issues. One is 9 pages and cover several noises and causes (usually fixed with felt and teflon tape). The second one is for A pillars on Cabs only and is one page (same felt/teflon tape type solution).

See, I try to use the right terminology and I get corrected. :) I had called them headers in a previous post, and someone told me they were called manifold extractors (in the European fashion). I'll go back to calling them what they should be called, headers.
Thanks for the info. Project for tomorrow!!
 Porsche's parts list terminology (on this one) is traditional - "exhaust manifold".
-
What are the next steps in replacing the manifold extractors? I have a complete TechArt system that I want to install, and it includes these. Thanks
If you are talking about the headers - there are 3 on each header pipe (9 per side). There are 3 bolts where the header connects to the cats.
When installing the header to engine torque is 19 ft-lbs and the header to cat torque is 22 ft-lbs.

From www.beckerautosound.com:
"All you need for the CDR220 or CDR23, is the Phone mute/Aux audio-in/Tel audio-in/Removal keys in one kit, part # 1319.116-276 ($16.40)
To order please call our parts department at (888) 423-3537 x1209..."
No, the CDR-23 is a MOST (optical) device and has no aux input.
From the Becker North America site:
(http://www.beckerautosound.com/soundadviceonline.html)The CDR-23 does not have AUX input. -
Correct. I've never had to take anything else off.So with this wrench, I won't need to remove any of the exhaust system?
Hmm... only two bolts then they slide out the side. I usually take them all the way out since you need to get your arm back in there to the back plugs. Also, When I removed the heat sheilds, I couldn't remove them completely. I just took them off and let them lay down (I think it was on the header pipes). Is this normal or can you remove them completely? I felt that if I could completely remove the sheilds, it would have helped. -
This is Jeff's pic. To get the back plugs you need the short swivel head socket wrench shown just to the left of the jack. Note: Do NOT use anti-seize on the threads.

Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) - for that "real" Porsche sound. Mine is open all the time. ;)

Well, there is rarely a problem over reving while accelerating - Porsche has taken care of that with the rev limiter -- called stage 1 over revs in the DME memory. (Yes, your DME is recording over revs!)
The real problem is over-reving on down shifts or by spinning the car and running the engine backwards -- these are recorded in the DME as stage 2 over revs -- and they can damage the engine severely.
Lots of stage 1 counts but no stage 2 counts will not usually cause warranty issues with dealers/PCNA. Any stage 2 counts can mean a denied claim based on abuse.

There should be a number code for your locking socket - either on the plastic bag or written in your manual. You will need that number code to order a new socket.
-
There is an alarm contact where the radio slides in. It hits sticker on the Becker radio and then loses contact. You need to put some tape in the same position on your new radio.

If you carefully mask off the silkscreen area they can be cleaned and painted. I understand Wurth Silver wheel paint followed by Wurth Clear Coat wheel paint work well. There is a DIY for removing them for painting/replacement here.

Quick question -
I had both the rain sensor and dimming mirror retrofit done at the same time. From reading the manual it describes being able to change the sensitivity of the rain sensor by turning the knob with the picture of the wiper on it to one of 6 settings. The manual says that you will have the change aknowledged by one wipe of the wipers. Since I had the retrofit done, it takes a whole lot of rain to get my wipers to wipe making this feature virtually worthless. I tried increasing the sensitivity by turning the knob and got no change and no confirmatory wipe. I had my car into the dealer today for the seat recall and asked if the rain sensor retrofit was set up / installed correctly. The tech came back and stated the sensativty function only works on the factory installed and not on the retrofit becuase it has a different controller.
From anyone else that has the rain sensor retrofit is this true?
I wonder if the added the relay. The kit includes a "wiper interval relay".
Also, the interval delay will only work with the wiper switch in position 3.

No, no necessarily. Oil can also leak from the front pulley or the valve covers or the oil seals around the spark plugs. The RMS (rear main seal) is the only oil leak that requires engine removal to repair.
IMHO none are very common.

Have a look at the thread here.
If you want I can send you the procedure - but since your car is under warranty you may want to go ahead and let the dealer do it. Just let me know...
-
The two most common problems are a misaligned clutch switch and a faulty ignition switch. For the clutch switch - You should be able to hear a click when you press the clutch all the way down. You can also test is with a volt/ohm meter.
For the ignition switch there isn't much you can do but replace the switch. Porsche introduced a new switch as of Sept 5, 2003 production.

Thanks!

I got the TSB for the inside mirror yesterday, but there was no mail from you with the outside dimming mirror TSB.
Thanks
Turro
Ok.
Just sent it again.
Let me know if you got it...
-
Thak you for sending me the TSB for the inside mirror. I was able to install it properly.
Now i am thinking about installing the outside mirror, but Tool Pants wrote that there is much more to do than just install the wire.
Could you send me the TSB for the outside mirror, so that I can see if it is possible for me to do it be myself.
Thank you for your help.
I did, yesterday.
Did you get it?

I believe that is standard. If I turn the fan "OFF", it will not stay "OFF" indefinitely. I.e., if I take the key out and put it back in, the fan setting will automatically turn back on. I've personally been annoyed by this as well.
Thank Ralph Nader
This is because of a fresh air (anti carbon monoxide) law he helped pass that requires fresh air in the passenger compartment on all vehicles.

Is your "Auto" button pressed on?

I am buying the 5 spoke Porsche wheels from my friend. He owns a 2003 C2 (or C4?). He just bought HREs and wanted to get rid of his stock wheels.
Before I buy though, I wanted to make sure that they will fit on my 2000 C2. Does anyone know if I will run into any problems?
They will fit fine - as long as it is a C2 or C4 - not C4S.
-
You will need either your cars VIN or the radio serial number to get the code from a dealer or Becker. Both require some for of ID so they know you are the rightful owner. If your dealer knows you well they might do it over the phone - otherwise you will have to go to a dealer with proof of ownership.
-
Yes, just the front cover.

If the 997 is like previous PCM systems - yes. But we won't know for sure until we see one...
