  1. Quick question - I had both the rain sensor and dimming mirror retrofit done at the same time. From reading the manual it describes being able to change the sensitivity of the rain sensor by turning the knob with the picture of the wiper on it to one of 6 settings. The manual says that you will have the change aknowledged by one wipe of the wipers. Since I had the retrofit done, it takes a whole lot of rain to get my wipers to wipe making this feature virtually worthless. I tried increasing the sensitivity by turning the knob and got no change and no confirmatory wipe. I had my car into the dealer today for the seat recall and asked if the rain sensor retrofit was set up / installed correctly. The tech came back and stated the sensativty function only works on the factory installed and not on the retrofit becuase it has a different controller. From anyone else that has the rain sensor retrofit is this true?
  2. Granted everywhere is different, I initially got the name of the guy that my BWM dealer sub-contracts to do their wheels. I used him on my M3's polished aluminum rims, on my wife's car, and have had several friends use the same guy all with amazing results. I have come to find out that essentially all the high end dealerships (Porsche, BMW, Mercedes. Lexus) use the same guy / service. Only difference is that if you call him directly you don't get slapped with the surcharge that the dealership charges you. I just thought that it was worth it to have a wheel done flawlessly and pay $50, rather than pay $20 for supplies and do a potentially not quite so perfect job. If I lived somewhere else I would check with more discriminating dealerships and see who they use. Also the guy in my area belongs to a franchise which is in a lot of states they have a web site to see who is in your area: http://www.mobilewheelrepair.com/locations.htm . Hope this helps.
  3. For 30 bucks extra I think it is worth it to have it done professionally. I had a little curb rash on my 19 inch rims touched up on my M3. Could even find it afterwards. Guy I use warranties his work for 5 years.
  4. That reasoning sounds like a load of rubbish. As anal as most M3 and M5 owners are about break-in you think they are not going to include floating rotors because U.S. buyer wouldn't followed recommended (and free) scheduled maintenance? I think a more realistic reason might be another thing to have to get approved by NHTSA, or cutting costs.
  5. Hey nova996, Still 400+ miles away, so looks like one more night to go through.
  6. Just a quick question. Does anyone know the braking speed of the 996 911 versus the E46 M3? Having just come from an M3, the brakes feel very different, and I wanted to know what the performance of the brakes were side by side.
  7. Itzkirb, If that were the case, why couldn't you just power the home link remote with power off the nearby window switch?
  8. I am contemplating doing the rocker switch install as it seems the cheapest, most oem looking, and simplest. I wanted to put the switch near the ashtray, running the power to it from the ashtray light. So to be able to push on the rocker switch to activate the homelink remote. Can someone explain how to hook into the power from the ashtray light into the homelink remote (for the technically challenged)?
  9. If you put it by the ash tray, how hard would it be (for those of technically impaired) to run off the power of the ash tray light so we never need to replace batteries?
  10. I have read through all of the previous threads about installing a remote using various switches. Has anyone simply tried going to an car salvage yard and buying a visor with the homelink buttons on it like pictured below? I thought a clean install would be to get the switch and have it installed on the visor connecting to the light to the mirrors for power. Anyone have any thoughts about doing that?
  11. mblank, How much did the installation and kit come to?
