  1. FWIW On a base 987 with a build date of 02/05 I just had the RMS replaced under warranty at about 16K miles. Never any oil on the garage, or noticeable consumption between changes. I have noticed a vague "hot" smell over the last few months occasionally. The dealer noticed the minor RMS leak during the oil change. Overall, the car has been very reliable, with no unscheduled dealer visits. Waranty items to date (29 months/16Kmiles): RMS, the valve the made the "kazoo"sound about 3000 RPM (I forget the name off the top of my head), a front "light controller" box for the fog lights, the HomeLink garage door transmitter (wouldn't hold programming--new one does) and the driver's side sun visor, which developed an annoying rattle. The dealer ordered a new head unit for me when mine started locking up on CDs and randomly changing stations, but it spontaneously healed itself (after he R&R'd it to check the serial # or something) so I declined to return for the replacement, more than a year ago. I suspect the unit had a loose connection somewhere.
  2. Thanks. Actually, I can get it programmed, after multiple tries, but it doesn't seem to "stick." In other words, it will work for a few days, then will stop working. Currently it's working, but I don't know for how long. The dealer says he can't help because he has to be in front of the door.
  3. Hi All. I have an '05 987 base, and am having difficulty with the Homelink transmitter. After searching through various forums on the internet, it appears that Porsche's instructions in the owner's manual don't work. I had the same experience, but was able, after mutliple tries, to get the homelink programmed using the "generic" technique that works on other cars. My problem is that it won't stay programmed. The LED lights up as if it's transmitting, bu the door won't open. The "clicker" still works fine. Range, even when it was working, was very poor. I have programmed maybe 10 others over the last few years, GM, Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Lexus. I've never had a problem with any of them. Are there any tricks or workarounds with this unit? TIA
  4. Actually, it's probably a resistor. "35W" isn't a voltage, it's a wattage (power). I think the computer is looking for a certain resistance and if it doesn't see it, assumes the bulb is gone. :D
